Jane Eyre, what can I say about Jane Eyre, it is definitely an all time favorite among many people around the world. Charlotte Bronte really did an excellent job of bringing the character to life, when reading the book you can almost feel what Jane is feeling. Jane grew up at the turn of the century and at that time woman were thought to be nothing in society, all their roles were to stay at home and keep the house up to scale for the man of the house, they were totally dependent, they had no say or do in anything. Jane had it very rough. She was an orphan child with no family and no place in society, Jane also carried around the worthless name of an orphan child and a lower class woman and people would always see Jane as nothing more than a servant. In Janes case it almost seemed that there was no hope at all for her in life.

She was very despised by her Aunt Reed and Uncle Reed and her cousins john, Georgina, and Eliza, that was the only family she thought she had and she had nothing to fall back on for back up. A major issue for Jane and for all other woman at the time was the issue authority, women had to deal with this at the time because of the way they were looked upon, this issue of male authority stood in front of Jane a lot. Some of the men that played a major role in here life were St. John, John Reed, Rev. Brocklehurst and Mr. Rochester.

John Reed basically put her through hell at Gateshead as a child. St. John was an attraction figure for Jane when she was a woman. Rev. Brocklehurst was thought to be evil in Janes mind as she was a child. Mr.

Rochester was though to be an attraction figure to Jane too. As Jane moves through life, she overcomes most of these things by getting away like when she leaves for Lowood she escapes Gateshead and when she is leaving for Thornfeild she escapes Lowood, this did Jane a lot of good to get away. When she returns to Gateshead, it is a victory for Jane because she succeeded without the help of Aunt Reed and at one time she had needed them and now it is the other way around Aunt Reed needs her. When Jane inherits the money from her uncle this is the first step of obtaining wealth, a place in the world and a family that she never had for so long but, there is one thing that she has to overcome and that is male power. She overcomes her childhood authority figures by beating John Reed by just getting through life and succeeding and Rev. Brocklehurst she just overcomes that by moving out of Lowood and not staying there the rest of here life and becoming nothing.

Jane goes to the River and finds family that she never knew she had. Jane then goes back to Thornfeild and finds love gets married to Mr. Rochester, their marriage was not like any other marriage at that time because Jane was her own person and did not depend on Mr. Rochester at all so she was an independent woman, very few women could say that around that time period. All and all Jane Eyre was a good book. Jane overcome and beat the odds, she became independent, successful, found love and found a family that she never had her whole life.

Jane Eyre was a really good role model for women around that time period and even a good model for women today. Bibliography:
