Many events and conflicts occurred in this story. In The Hobbit, I noticed conflicts such as Bilbo Baggins vs. himself, all the hobbits vs. Smaug, and Bilbo vs.

the other hobbits. Bilbo was not readily accepted by the hobbits he was traveling with. The only reason he was allowed to go was because Gandolf, the wondering wizard, assures the others that Bilbo's presence would be useful. The event that I would place, as the climax, is when Bilbo goes in Smaug's cave. He finds his weakness that leads to him being killed. This shows bravery on Bilbo's part and shows others his courage.

The ending of this book was typical of any fantasy story in my opinion. It ends with the good defeating the evil. Tolkien presents us with a fantasy world of his own creation Middle Earth, which has its own races, languages, and geography. He implies that this world is connected to our own, saying that the hobbits have become rare and shy of the Big People, which is why we no longer see them around.

The story begins in the spring and their travels lasted until sometime close to the next spring. In many places in the story such as Smaug's cave, the Trolls, and the war, the author is very descriptive in telling about the setting. In other less important parts he doesnt describe the setting as well. The setting in this story plays an extremely important role. It shows the mood, which is fantasy, and it makes it easier for the reader to understand the story. Bilbo Baggins was the main character and narrator in the book The Hobbit.

He is similar to a human, but about half the size and not nearly as loud. Gandolf, the wondering wizard, helps the hobbits many times when they are in trouble. He is very powerful and has a great sense of timing. Thorn Oakenshield, the leader of the hobbits, was a selfish and jealous man. He did not believe that Bilbo could help in their crusades but decided to take him just because of Gandolf's advice. The last important character is Smaug.

Smaug was a giant dragon that stole the treasure from the Dwarves of Dale. Smaug lives in the Lonely Mountains by himself protecting the treasure day in and day out. Many of the characters in this story are very important. Bilbo being the main character changes as the story progresses.

He hadnt experienced much in his life until this great adventure. After it was over though he returned home without treasure and without the rest of the hobbits. He seemed to have missed home. I think that the author put Bilbo in the story to show the readers how an insignificant person can become the leader of a group if they choose to. The narrator of this story is Bilbo Baggins. He is the main character and shares his emotions with the readers.

At the beginning of the book he is very weak and scared but throughout the story he gains confidence and begins to grow as a person. Bilbo's language is different than many other stories. He doesnt speak directly to the reader but describes everything in great detail. He ends up in the end being a very confident and very brave character. Through Tolkien's world is one of fantasy; he designed it to reflect certain truths about the real world. The Hobbit addresses the problem of determining the right way for a hobbit (or any ordinary person) to live.

Should they concern themselves with great deeds and wars, and risk losing the humble perspective afforded by the simple life? Or should they never go outside their little quiet existence, and risk ignoring the larger perspective that might have allowed them to do great things for the common good? The answer that emerges from The Hobbit is that, if one is called on to play a part in great affairs, then one should not shirk ones duty. To perform that duty well, however, one must never lose sight of ones own insignificance in the larger scheme of things, nor lose respect for the value of the simple life.

Tolkien made this book extremely easy to read. He didnt use very many complex sentences or big words. Tolkien made this book too predictable because of the way he used foreshadowing. The reader could almost tell you the end of the story after the first 20 pages. I think the book would have been better if the author would have used more suspense and not as many hints.

He told the story in such a way that is was easy to read and understand and it was also fun to read. I think he tried to relate the story to the real world in such a way that the readers could almost see a part of this story in their own life. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and would recommend it to readers of all ages. Bibliography:
