Simon is about 4 ft. , black hair and, brown eyes. His eyes were so bright that they deceived Ralph into thinking he was fun and wicked. His hair always seems to be straggly and dirty, but its actually not, its just the way he wears it. Hes approx. 85 lbs. , hes very skinny. He has a pointy chin, and a low, broad forehead. He wears mainly shorts that are always dirty from sitting on the ground, while looking for little creatures to play with and keep.

His obsession with nature makes him somewhat eccentric. For his age he is actually quite built, all the it is hard to tell from his child like physique. When Simon was living at home he was as quiet if not more quiet than he was on the island. He lived with his mom, dad, and older brother. He was the black sheep of the family.

His older brother was the person that one all the awards in the family, and because of this Simon is the way he is. He has always been in the shadow of his brother, no one notices him. Therefore making him an outcast that is clearly visible. Although he is this way he does try to interact an make friends but it doesn't usually work out the way he wants it to. Simon is an introverted boy who cannot find it bearable to speak in front of the assembly. The boys all think that hes batty; he likes to be by himself and sometimes does and says strange things.

Simon is the only boy who discovers what the Beast truly is. He learns this during the meeting with the Lord of the Flies. When he tries to tell the rest of the children, he is mistaken as the Beast and beaten to death. Simon is often seen as a Christ figure in the novel.

In the novel the characters symbolized many different things from evil to intelligence. Simon symbolized a savior and a prophet. Simon did things and things happened to Simon that made him symbolize a prophet Such as; at one point in the novel he talked to the lord of the flies and afterwards he fainted, he wakes up later looking at the head and a vessel in his nose breaks causing him to have a nose bleed. This is like the Mountain of olives were shed blood and endured a vision of mans vulnerability to sin. Another incident was when Simon found out that the Beast was in reality a dead parachutist. In the book it says that Simon knew the dead parachutist was a human at once heroic and sick This shows that he is a prophet because even before he went to find out what the beast actually was he knew already and was saying that there wasnt a beast and that what was on the mountain wasnt real.

A third incident was when Simon tried to suggest to the group that the beast was from within themselves by saying What is the dirtiest thing there is? This shows that Simon knows that evil comes from within and that humans are all alike and that they lean towards evil The last incident that shows Simon is a prophet was when tells Ralph that youll get back to where you came from. He did not say we but said youll get back. Which shows that Simon knew what lied ahead for him and that he also knew what was ahead for Ralph. Simon showed traits that made him symbolize a savior as well: In the novel it says that Simon was kneeling one knee, looking from a higher rock to talk to Ralph.

This shows Simon as some sort of preacher or minister talking to Ralph from above, like a Minister giving his sermon at the pulpit. A second incident was when Simon goes to the forest to be alone and away from the chaos. He kneels down in his cabin and seemed to be accepting punishment for something. This is something that a savior would do to help his people keep out of torment.

Lastly when Simon sacrifices his own life to bring truth and enlightenment to his people. This is like when Jesus is put on the cross and dies for all mans sin. When Simon dies it says that he is carried out to sea by luminous creatures. It seems to cause a halo-like effect showing peace and tranquility, like an angel.
