School Violence: The Columbine Tragedy Tuesday, April 20, 1999, is one of the most significant dates to the tragedies of school violence. It all started 1 year and 6 months ago. It was a normal morning in Littleton, Colorado the students of Columbine High School had no idea of the tragedies that would go on durning the day. No one could know, as they went about their normal business, that beneath the calm, an anger had been raging in the hearts and minds of two students, Eric Harris 18 and Dylan Klebold 17, what they had in store as they walked into the building that fateful morning. At 11: 35 a.

m. on the 110 th anniversary of Adolf Hitlers birth, the two teenagers, also members of the Trench Coat Mafia, started a rampage in the cafeteria of Columbine High School ultimately ending their own lives and the lives of 12 students and 1 teacher leaving 25 wounded and many seirouly injured. There are many factors that lead to the unjustifiable deaths of so many. Eric Harris, one of the gunmen, was taking an antidepressant, a newer serotonergic Prozac clone LUVOX, listed in the manufacturers warning as frequent adverse reactions to Luvox are manic reactions and psychotic reaction. Of course, psychotic reaction means in laymen terms insanity. The mixture between this and the psyotrophic veiw's of hatred to every race, as stated in his journal, and the antidepressants he was taking, everything he dreamed of, killing everyone in his school mixed with violent videogames, all the teasing, and the effects of the psychotic reaction, resulted in the plans he had to actually take place on that day.

How could have this been prevented? Everyone can take part to help prevent school violence. First of all, think before you say something, every snide remark you make to somebody or about somebody makes someone hurt, whether it is that person or their friend. The words that you say have more impact on a person than most people realize. If all your life you are teased and tormented than in the end you will be a hateful and spiteful person, as in the case of Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold. The anger and bitterness built up for so long that in the end it drove them to kill.

In most ways it was their fault, but if you think about it, in some ways it is not. The anger of years of teasing and abuse partly lead to the school manager on that day. School violence can be prevented if everyone takes part in preventing it. Just take a few seconds to let it roll off your back, dont let what people say affect who you are. If Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold took those few seconds to realize that it doesnt matter what people say or do that counts, and if they realized that then maybe those shootings may have never happened.

So, in conclusion what people say shouldnt affect your life be your own person and do whatever you want to do know that you are better than that. Dont sink to other peoples levels just know that every time someone says something rude to you that they are jealous of you and that sinking to their level just shows that you are just as low as they are. Dont let anything get into your skin if you have thoughts about doing what Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold did you need to get help. Talk to a parent or a counselor, call a self help line, or talk it out with your friends one way or another get help, or if its someone else, tell someone about it before something like that happens to you.
