All those listed above are equally important, and shows you that my job is a lot more than just selling. Relationship to Marketing: My job is an entry-level position with the company and mainly relates to the sales field. My job goes further than just selling, it also involves building customer as well as retail relationships, market research, time and territory management, and also a little bit of forecasting. While working for AT&T Ive learned that building customer relationships is very important if you want to be successful. You have to build trust in order for a consumer to buy from you and not the competitor. I may work on a smaller scale then the larger sales associates, but even in my line of work I put a large emphasis on relationships.

I realize that these people put a lot of trust in what I tell them about my product. Ive learned in todays competitive environment to retain customers, firms must go beyond simply selling products, and they must provide value-added services. I feel that if anything Ive learned that the unit of value today is the customer relationship. Next thing I realized that my job was teaching me was doing market research in a sense. I work in a middle class community, so knowing what kind of customers buy and which dont can mean the difference between a productive day and a non-productive day.

I have to do my research visually by watching the consumer behavior. I observe daily what kind of clientele come in and out of my store, which in turn helps me deal with the right customer. My territory consists of the city and the store I work for, making all people in that range potential customers. I have to learned how to manage my time and territory from trial and error.

I know which clients that I have are return customers so I take more time with them, and I know which ones could be potential customers. In school I have learned that time and territory management is one big key to making money or not making it. Right now I might have a small scale to work with, but its a starting point to work with for future endeavors. And finally I have been helping do a little bit of forecasting for my territory. Also another important part of marketing which I learned from school can be very valuable. Every weekend I turn in a sheet with a forecast for the next week, this sets my goals as well as lets my manager know which products they need to send for me to sell.

My manager does want to loose money by sending products that are not selling well, so he trusts my judgement to forecast what I feel the projected sales will be like for next week. Im learning a lot from this job that I might have not known before, and also reinforcing what I have learned in school. This is the job that I feel will land me my first job out of college, and I hope a promising career in sales & marketing. The important lesson I will take with me from his job is that building customer relationships is one if not the most important thing in sales. No matter how sales change in the future, if we cant satisfy our customers then we wont have a market for our products. Getting a marketing degree and having the hands on experience together are going to play the most important role in my future.

School is just a reinforcement and a learning tool, but nothing beats hands on experience and that why I have enjoyed this internship. Bibliography:
