Romeo and Juliet Word Count: 756 Romeo and Juliet is a play by Shakespeare. It was written about 400 years ago. The play is about two star crossed lovers one Romeo Montagues and the other Juliet Capulet. There is a problem with this because their families are rivals. Death, loyalty, suicide, and murder are other elements of Romeo and Juliet. Shakespeare couldn t have covered the subjects and character descriptions too much because it s a play that was put on millions of times.

If he were to go into depth of the characters looks and wardrobe it wouldn t work because every time a play is put on its different, with variables such as actors or sets. The point of view for Romeo and Juliet is of the narrator because it s not being told by anyone participating in the play but someone looking upon the play. Shakespeare was probably in disfavor of the family feuding and killing because he made this a tragedy in the end where both Romeo and Juliet die and their families come together. It s almost like there s a lesson to be taught in the play.

The mood illustrated in Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet changed drastically from the beginning of the play to the end. This is seen through the emotional changes that take place. When Romeo and Juliet met each other they were so much in love with each other they thought nothing could keep them apart, but Romeo s banishment changed that. The events in Romeo and Juliet are very important, some are crucial to the falling action of this tragedy. The crucial events that effect the conclusion of Romeo and Juliet are the Capulet ball, the feud between Tybalt and Romeo, and Friar John s plague. The one that is the most important is Friar John s sickness.

The plan was that the day before the wedding, Juliet was going to drink the poison, which will slow her pulse and make her appear to be dead. In forty-two hours she will wake up with Romeo next to her. Since Romeo is banished so he cannot be told of the plan so Friar Laurence sends Friar John to inform him. Friar John tries to find someone to accompany him to Mantua, where Romeo is, but fails.

Romeo hears from Bathasar that his wife Juliet has died. Friar John not getting the letter to Romeo has a large effect on the outcome of this play. If Romeo were to get the letter he would have been at Juliet s side as she awakens. Romeo and Juliet is both fiction and non-fiction. Another important event was Lord Capulet sending a messenger who cant read with the invitation list for the Capulet ball. By sending this man who cant read, lead to him having to ask directions.

The man asked Romeo to read the list, which informed Romeo and Benvolio of the Capulet s Masked ball. Romeo and Benvolio decide to go. This Decision sets many things off. At the Ball, Romeo meets Tybalt, Tybalt becomes angry but is calmed down by Lord Capulet. Romeo also meets Juliet at the Capulet ball. These events lead to the tragic ending of Romeo and Juliet.

In a way it would be the Friar s fault because he took the risk when he thought the marriage of Romeo and Juliet would unite the Montague's and Capulets. In the end it did but they had sacrificed their children for peace. The play setting of Verona is true, but the characters in Romeo and Juliet are fiction. The only flaw I noticed was that he used the word gun in the play, which takes place before guns were invented.

In Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare turns to characters such as the Nurse or Mercutio to bring sexual humor to the play. A big part of Romeo and Juliet is love. At the beginning Juliet does not even know what love is. Romeo thinks love is what he has for Rosaline. Paris and Lady Capulets definition of love is in looks and appearance. Benvolio's thinks that a man should only love a woman when he is in an affair with her.

Another type of love in Romeo and Juliet is parents love from the Capulets and Montague's. This is seen in act five when Lady Montague is heartbroken and dies when she sees her dead son, Romeo. The final statement I would like to make is that I remind everyone this is a play and not a book. Shakespeare couldn t of been more descriptive in a play.
