The American Revolution contained many key points in American History. Without this revolution, American citizens could possibly not have the freedom they have today. This war was, and still is one of the most important wars the American army has ever battled. The American Revolution began when the king of Britain sent colonists to colonize which is now known as the thirteen original colonies.

After a few years of being settled the King of Britain put a tax on many needed items such as tea, stamps, newspapers, and sugar. This enraged the settlers, which led them to rebel against the government. Their first act of rebellion was known as the Boston Tea Party. During the Boston Tea Party revolutionists such as Samuel Adams, and Ben Franklin went to the Boston Harbor and through precious tea to the British of the side of ships holding the cargo. Unlike what most people think the people who organized and went through with the Boston Tea Party did not dress like Native Americans. Instead they actually put soot from chimneys on their faces and wore strange costumes.

This surprised the British and it also led to what is now known as the Boston Massacre. This massacre included some angry civilians and four ill-tempered British soldiers. With all these events occurring it angered the Americans so much that they waged war with Britain. The first battle of the American Revolution took place in Lexington, Massachusetts. There were many soldiers awaiting the first shot of the revolution, then suddenly a shot came from the dead silence. This was the first shot of the war and was known as The Shot Heard Round the World.

Later came a man named Ethan Allen from Vermont he was a very strong man and was said to be able to grip a sack of salt with his teeth and throw it over his head. Not only was he physically strong, but his mental intelligence led him to be a great threat to Governor Tyron of New York, Allen was named an outlaw. This only increased his fame and popularity, which led Ethan to organize The Green Mountain Boys. This group was started for the protection of the land between New York and New Hampshire. A man named Benedict Arnold from Connecticut became a partner with Allen. When Benedict Arnold heard the extremely exciting news about Concord and Lexington he decided that the British fort, Ticonderoga, was a very vital fortress of the Britain, and so he decided to capture it.

Ethan Allen had the same idea. Both men took eighty-three of there best men and led them to the fort when night fell. The Green Mountain boys took control of Fort Ticonderoga and won an important battle for the Americans. The Americans believed it was time to declare how they felt. The Congress Committee chose Thomas Jefferson, a man from Virginia, to write a document that declared exactly how Congress felt about Britain. The paper announced to Britain that America was a free nation and had formed a unity throughout the individual colonies.

On July fourth seventeen seventy-six this bill was accepted unanimously and was named the Declaration of Independence. The Declaration of Independence may have done a lot for Americans freedom, but there was still more to be done. The recognition of our freedom should also go to the brave men that fought the battles and the revolutionists like Thomas Jefferson, and John Hancock.
