Free Mumia Abu-Jamal A political prisoner is both a fellow citizen who received an unfair trial and a powerful symbol for those of us who are convinced this unfairness partly results from their political beliefs-beliefs that highlight the criminal justice system as a structure of unfairness. For example Nelson Mandela a South African political activist and lawyer Nelson was the organizational leader of the African national congress, Mandela was sentenced in 1964 to life in prison for sabotage, treason, and conspiring to overthrow the government. He was released from prison on Feb. 11, 1990. Like Mandela, Mumia has ambitions and desires to let the, Voice of the Voiceless are heard. Mumia Abu-Jamal, a political prisoner, was a prominent radio journalist who allowed the angry and the frustrated voices of the oppressed onto the airwaves.
In retaliation, the Philadelphia police framed him up on a murder charge. In December of 1981, Mumia was shot by a Philadelphia cop and almost died when he came upon a scene where his own brother was being beaten by a cp. The police officer was also shot and killed, and witnesses saw two men run from the scene. Yet when police arrived, they beat mumia before taking him to the hospital. When they discovered that they had a prominent critic of the police department, he was immediately charged with the murder.
Mumia's brother and witnesses at the scene were later harassed and driven out of town. No attempt was made to identify the men seen fleeing the scene. The dead officer was holding the drivers license of yet another man, but it was only Mumia that the police wanted. When people began to question the charging of Mumia, the police put forward the strange story, two months after the incident, that mumia had confessed in the hospital emergency room, and they had simply forgotten to mention it at the time or written it in their reports. The written reports and the emergency room doctors say this never happened.
Mumia was ten barred from most of his own trial for protesting an incompetent court- appointed attorney who was later left to rest. Much evidence was withheld from the defense, witnesses were intimidated, and the fatal bullet has disappeared from the police files. The political motivation of the prosecution was made clear when the prosecutor argued for the death penalty by reading revolutionary quotes from Mumia's political writings. In a recent court hearing a witness used against Mumia in the first trial came forward to say that she lied under police coercion. She was arrested in the courtroom as she stepped off the stand, because she was supposedly wanted in another state. All this takes place against a massive scandal of the police of Philadelphia.
Dozens of people have been released from jail because they were originally convicted on the basis of phony evidence that was given by police. If you ask who Mumia Abu Jamal is, he is a radio journalist in Philadelphia, was known as, the voice of the voiceless during the years he was awarded for radio journalism, and was named one of Philadelphia, people to watch in 1981 by Philadelphia magazine. And became the president of the association of black journalism in Philadelphia. Mumia Abu Jamal was a member of the Black Panther party, and later a supporter of the MOVE organization. He was a leading critic of police violence against the minority communities of Philadelphia. Abu-Jamal was sentenced to death in 1982 as a result of a thoroughly rigged trial in which he was convicted of shooting a Philadelphia policeman.
The prosecution demanded the death sentence on the basis of Abu-Jamal's political beliefs. Since the government has mind control over its people, whenever someone speaks their mind; the government plays along with their game, and always ends up winning. This signifies that no one can over take the government. As we witnessed in Los Angeles, if the courts fail us, chaos often happens. And as the cases of important political prisoners of the past and the as Geronimo Pratt in California and Mumia Abu- Jamal in Pennsylvania- move to the center of black consciousness, more corruption will come about. Presently, Mumia Abu-Jamal has effected the whole world with this murder trial.

This trial has greatly effected the hip-hop world. From, the voice of the voiceless to the Free Speech law it has shown the world that one person can make a difference and that difference may not be grateful to you but to someone else.
