One morning I awoke to find that I had been changed into a large dog. I didnt want to scream and wake the whole house so I just sat in my bed and just thought to myself, how could this have happened? I ran my fingers across what used to be my face and felt nothing but fur. I didnt know what to do so I just laid in bed and thought to myself that it was all a dream. I closed my eyes and opened them a few seconds later and I was still a dog. I rolled onto my back and looked at my belly and it was covered in fur and my hands and feet were paws.
I had white fur with tan spots all over me. Of all dogs I had to be a mutt. I thought to myself how was I going to get out of bed and be seen by my parents. I heard my parents downstairs talking and laughing while they had breakfast.
I knew I could not avoid them and they would have to see me sometime. All I wanted to do was cry. But that would not some my problem. I had to get out of bed somehow without making too much noise. I got as much momentum as I could and flung myself out of bed. I had a rug on the floor so it broke my fall and absorbed the noise.
I went to walk on two feet but I couldnt. I guess the law of being a dog was to walk on all four. So I started to walk. It was a little clumsy at first but I started to get the hang of it. I walked over to the mirror and took one look at myself and observed all my features. I had a white face with tan freckles on my nose and little tan ears.
I turned to the side and I had two tan spots on my back and a long tail with long white hair. I opened my mouth and saw inside large white teeth and little black spots in my mouth. All I could think of was what am I going to do with myself. I cant go to school or work like this. How was I going to be a doctor and have kids. Why of all people did this have to happen to me.
I guess those were selfish thoughts to be thinking. But what was I suppose to think. Next I heard a knock at my bedroom door. It was my mother. I couldnt make out what she was saying but her voice was very soft. I tried to speak but all that came out of my mouth was a yelp.
She then started to open the door. Just as she did that I ran to the other side of the room. I heard her say Honey, where are you? I stood shaking in the corner with the curtain covering half my body. Then I saw her walk over to where I was hiding. She lifted the curtain and said Oh there you are.
I thought something had happened to you. I was so puzzled. I just tilted my head like dogs do when theyre confused. Then she said Come downstairs and Ill tell you what has happened to you. I went downstairs with her and I discovered that my other siblings had turned into a dog also. She started with saying that she thought that this would skip a generation.
But it didnt. She said every generation in her side of the family has had this happen to them. But it goes away as we get older. Every year on a particular day our bodys DNA changes and thats why we became a dog.
I just thought to myself, thats nice but when will I change back. Then she said that it was only a twenty-four hour change and Ill be my normal self tomorrow. Great, what was I suppose to do till then. I went to my room and just laid on my bed thinking of what a weird day this was. I hoped to myself that it would never happen again but you never know when it can happen. I now knew how it felt to be a dog and live life for a day like an animal.
