Hitler s Life Adolf Hitler was born on April 20, 1889 in a small Austrian village. His father was Alois Schicklgruber and his mother was Klara Hitler. Three of Adolf s siblings died when they were children, one of them died right after birth. The family moved around quite often, when Adolf was three they moved from the Austrian village to Passau, where Adolf s brother was born. Then the family moved to a farm in Held, where his sister was born. Adolf s grade school years came to an end and he wanted to attend a classical secondary school to fulfill his dreams of becoming an artist, but his father wanted him to follow in his footsteps by becoming a civil servant.

So Adolf went to the technical secondary school. At the age of thirteen Adolf s father died suddenly of a lung hemorrhage on January 3, 1903 leaving Adolf the head of the household. Another tragedy to strike Adolf was the death of his mother on December 21, 1907; she died of breast cancer. Historians have concluded that Adolf suffered psychological distress because of an unhappy childhood and a bad relationship with his father. After his mothers death Adolf moved to Vienna.

The city had a population of two hundred thousand Jews, and the poor men s home he lived in was near a Jewish community. (He was broke and homeless) Hitler left Vienna at age 24, to avoid mandatory military service in the Austrian Army, in May of 1913 he moved to Munich, Germany. On August 1, 1914, a huge, enthusiastic crowd gathered at the plaza in Munich to celebrate the German declaration of war. Two days later Hitler volunteered for the German Army. After the first engagement against the British his regiment suffered devastating losses, but Adolf escaped without a scratch, he always had good luck except the day that he was temporarily blinded by a British gas attack in October of 1918.

Adolf was given the job by the army to investigate the German Workers Party. Adolf spoke out for this party during the meeting and the members asked him to come back for another meeting. A few days later Adolf received a letter that accepted him as a member and asked him to come to an executive committee meeting. This party appealed to Adolf because it presented the opportunity to quickly attain a leadership position. Adolf joined the committee of the German Workers Party, which was the beginning of politics for Adolf. Adolf started to take control of the party.

He renamed the party the National Socialist German Workers Party or Nazi for short. By the end of 1920 the party had three thousand members. July 29, 1921, Adolf Hitler was introduced as the leader of the Nazi Party. The Beer Hall Putsch A series of financial events that unfolded in the years 1921 through 1923 that would move the Nazis to new heights. The first of these is the bill that France and England made with Germany demanding money for the damages caused in the war which Germany started.

This bill cost Germany 33 billion dollars and had the immediate effect of inflation in Germany. The Germany currency, the mark, slipped drastically in value. The German government asked for a postponement of the payments but France refused. By November of 1923 it took 4 billion marks to obtain a dollar. Germans were paid with worthless money and groceries cost billions, hunger riots broke out. The people were standing by their government because they were not paying the French but once the government deciding to resume payments the people became upset and bitter.

It was the perfect time for the Nazis to make their strike. Hitler and the Nazis hatched a plan in which they would kidnap the leaders of the German government and force them at gunpoint to accept Hitler as their leader. They put their plan into action when they learned that there was going to be a large gathering at a beer hall in Munich and the guests of honor were the leaders of the German govern. On November 8, 1923 Hitler and his troops burst into the beer hall and caused instant chaos. Adolf got up at the podium and told the crowd that the German government has been removed and a provisional government has been formed. He also said that the army and the police were marching under the swastika banner (not true).

After that Hitler ordered the three highest officials in a back room. Hitler informed them that they were to join him in this new government, but the officials refused to talk. Hitler got frustrated with the officials so he ran out again to the podium and yelled that a new government and army will be formed immediately. All of the people in the audience believed that Hitler had persuaded the officials to go along with Hitler.

The officials came out from the back room and stood next to Hitler, showing their support for him. Hitler spoke to the crowd about his vow to himself that he has to fulfill; the crowd reacted with a roar of approval. Meanwhile, Hitler had his other men take over army barracks. This was not going well so Hitler had to leave the beer hall. The three Bavarian leaders got to leave because they promised that they would stay faithful to Hitler. Hitler returned to the beer hall not much later.

To Recap, Hitler left gone and the 3 off left, Hitler came back. Hitler spent all night wondering how he was going to fix this and in the morning of November 9 three thousand Nazis marched toward the center of Munich. They encountered a police blockade. As they stood face to face with about one hundred armed police officers, Hitler yelled out surrender. The police did not surrender.

Shots rang out. Both sides fired. Sixteen Nazis and three policemen were killed. Adolf had a dislocated shoulder but managed to get away, the rest of the Nazis scattered or got arrested. Hitler spent two days hiding until the police found him and was arrested. With the collapse of the Nazi revolution, it now appeared to almost all observers that Hitler s political career and the Nazi movement itself had come to a crashing end.

But the truth of the matter is that Hitler used his trial for publicity. Hitler became a nationally and internationally known figure. He was tried for high treason, the possible sentence was life but he received five years with the possibility of parole in six months, Adolf was in prison for nine months than he was released. On April 1, 1924, Hitler was taken to the prison at Landsberg where he received gifts, was allowed visitors, and had his own secretary (Goodfellas). In his cell is where he expressed his ideas that were taken down by his secretary and made in to a book, which Billy is going to talk about.
