Gun Control for the Masses Gun control has always been a very controversial subject in American society. Hundreds of millions of websites are dedicated to the subject. Few are realistic, and many are absurdly extreme. Every website on the Internet seems to have a different definition of the second amendment, which deals with the right to bear arms. The more extremist sights believe one should be able to carry a weapon wherever and whenever you want, and the most conservative believe no one should ever be allowed to have a weapon. Almost every the web-sight on the Internet has bias.

Whoever is paying for or creating the sight has his or her own personal views and beliefs. If they did not, they would not waste the time and effort on a web sight. Many of the sights I came across are trying to sell you some item. Others are merely trying to sell you an idea. On The topic of gun control, most sights are trying to convince you that you should be allowed by law to carry a weapon. There are some sights opposed to guns, but a sight without any particular bias that just states facts is practically impossible to find.

Although many of the sights do not clearly state what their views are, the creator usually makes it quite obvious in the page. One of the more extreme sights is The Palladium Of Liberty! The creators of this sight proclaim it is your Right &# 038; Duty to Keep &# 038; Bear Arms, and that gun ownership is the linchpin (sic) of a free society that which secures all other freedoms. Without a population that can fight back, what would stop an oppressive government from taking away all right and civil liberties? They believe that with a gun toting population, we can control the government or even overthrow if ever needed. The Palladium Of Liberty is a very ineffective sight and also unappealing to the eye.

The screen is all white with blue writing, with are no pictures or graphics to attract your attention. They cite no reliable sources for their facts or opinions. The author s name and authority over the subject are not stated on the page, but does have an e-mail address for the sight manager. There is no last update date or supporting organization mentioned to help verify anything said by the author.

The author seems a like ranting alarmist who believes the government wants to take away the peoples guns before they try to take your rights. Another web-sight I found was created by The Center to Prevent Handgun Violence. This site has news of recent shootings and other news involving handguns on the front page. The first article is about the shooting at the White House in early February. The creator then calls upon the newly elected President Bush to do something about gun control.

The next article is about Ashcroft s appointment to Attorney General and his radical record on guns. The author urges involvement in the form of letters to your local senator. They claim that their site is not like other gun sites in that others are all pro-gun activists intent on deceiving visitors with gun lobby misinformation. This web-sight seems very credible but with few visual graphics and little color, the sight presents it information very poorly. It has been updated recently and provides names, histories, and contacts to the authors. One of the authors even serves as chair of Handgun Control and the Center to Prevent Handgun Violence.

One well designed web-sight was created by The National Center for Policy Analysis. They have 15 myths about gun control that seem to be realistic and relatively unbiased. They first say that guns do not cause crime, but still do not believe that owning a gun is a human right. With each of the myths they provide evidence and statistics to help prove their ideas. The sight is very well prepared.

They have two authors names listed and where they are from, but not how to contact them. One of the authors is from Texas A&# 038; M University which means he at least has an education and maybe some authority over the matter, but the sight has not been updated for over 4 years. The web-site Gun Truths. com is a very interesting sight that is clearly against gun control laws. The opening page asks you to pick whether you believe in SELF DEFENSE and want the facts, data and arguments which prove that gun control increases violent crime, or if you support gun control. If you choose in favor of gun control, you are compared to Adolph Hitler, Joseph Stalin, and Mao Tse Tung, and given examples where countries have enacted gun control laws, then killed large portions of the defenseless population.

This is another alarmist web-site promoting gun possession. This web-sight is very well organized and seems to be very reliable, though over dramatized. The sight has been audited by Super Stats. com and is part of The Right to Keep and Bear Arms Web Ring. Although there is no name of the author, there is a link to contact the Site Administrator. Most of the sights about gun control are extremist and very unrealistic.

Some are even encouraging militias and anarchy. Other sights are so against guns that they are hard to take seriously. The sight I found most effective was Gun Truths. com. Although very biased, they provide you with information and evidence to back it up. The sight is a little extreme in their views, but they make it easier to decide your own opinion on the issue.

Sights like the Palladium of Liberty are just ridiculous. They are alarmists trying to scare people into buying guns to fight the government. The sight 15 myths is a very well done sight. They provide you with much information, but most is not backed up with evidence. Most of the websites on gun control offer no real information on why one should be for or against. Most are just people ranting about how they like to have guns, or how they are opposed to gun ownership, but many of the sights are supported by larger organizations like The Center to Prevent Handgun Violence and by The National Center for Policy Analysis, which makes them more credible.
