In the play, Romeo and Juliet, six people die, but there is no one to blame for their deaths. The first two people who die are Mercutio and Tybalt and set the stage for the rest of the tragedy. Romeo dies by drinking poison to kill himself because he thinks Juliet is dead. Juliet dies because of the unfortunate timing of her awakening. Clearly, not a person is to blame for the six deaths; it is fate that is to blame. Mercutio and Tybalt die when they, and Romeo, meet up on a street in Verona.

Tybalt kills Mercutio because he is trying to start a fight. Romeo tries not to get into the fight, because he has just married a Capulet. When Mercutio is killed by Tybalt, Romeo says, And the fire-eyed fury by my conduct now! either thou, or I, or both, must go with him. After saying this, Romeo kills Tybalt, and for that, he becomes exiled from Verona. None of these was anyones fault, it was fate that the two groups met up on that street, and Romeo was meant to be exiled.

When Juliet hears that Romeo is exiled from Verona, she drinks a potion that will make her appear dead for forty-eight hours. Juliet does this because her parents want her to marry count Paris the next day, being unaware that she is already married to Romeo. Friar Lawrence tries to send a letter to Romeo, telling him the plan, but Romeo never receives the letter. Instead, Romeos servant, Balthatsar, leaves Verona to tell Romeo that Juliet is dead. Romeo is horrified by this and buys a poison from the apothecary, to drink when he returns to Verona to see the dead Juliet. When Romeo is in the tomb, with Juliet, he drinks the poison and dies quickly.

All of this happens so close together, and seconds hesitation would have kept Romeo and Juliet alive, but it was fate that caused the timing to work against them. Before Romeo dies, he looks at Juliet, and says, Thou art not conquered; beauty's ensign yet is crimson in thy lips and in thy cheeks, and deaths pale flag is not advanced there. Romeo came to the tomb minutes too early, because Juliets color started to come back to her face, meaning she was to wake soon. Just after Romeo dies, Juliet wakes up and sees that Romeo is dead. She kisses him trying to get some poison off his lips, so she can die too. No poison remains on Romeos lips, and she does not know what to do.

Juliet hears noise nearby, and she wants to be dead before any one comes to the tomb, so she stabs herself with Romeos dagger. Juliet kills herself seconds before anyone who would have stopped her reaches the tomb. Moments after Juliet dies, several of the Capulets and Montague's have come into the tomb. The two families see what has happened to their children, and end the feud because of it. It was fate that killed these six people; yet it was also fate that reunited the Caplets and Montague's.
