ESSAY-TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD The novel? To Kill A Mockingbird? illustrates many different points of view of racism. Long ago, when discriminating against black people was a part of everyday life, most people used very cruel words to describe them.

Black people couldn? t get jobs, and most didn? t go to school because they were not accepted by white people. Most white people were taught to shut out black people from society.

Communicating with a black person was completely unacceptable, and interacial couples were considered to be a horrible thing. No white person ever even thought of having a black person as a friend. Back then, black people were viewed as the lowest class in society. Considering the fact that blacks were the lowest class, stores, churches, and restaurants were reserved for either black or white people, never both. The black church was an old building and it was very poor, with no hymn books or pews. It was also used for gambling by white men on weekdays.

One man named Dolphus Raymond, who is white, married a black woman and was cast out from society. His mixed children were considered neither black nor white since they were half of each. No one wanted them as part of their social class. At Finch? s landing, Francis and Scout get into a fight. since Atticus was defending a black man, Francis called him a?

nigger-lover, ? and this made Scout very angry. The word? nigger?

was a terrible word commonly used by racist white people to describes blacks. When Aunt Alexandra comes to visit, she says mean things about Calpurnia and tries to get her fired. She doesn? t want Scout visiting Calpurnia? s house because she is black. She feels that black people will have a bad influence on the children.

Jails were filled with black people only. When a black man was accused of a crime, he is automatically guilty, despite any proof of innocence. Atticus, who is a white man, defends Tom Robinson on court. A poor man named Bob Ewell accuses Tom Robinson of raping his daughter.

As soon as Bob accuses him, everyone believes him because Tom Robinson is black. During his testimony, Tom Robinson says he feels sorry for Mayella. Putting himself a level above her is what eventually got him condemned. Even after he is proven innocent, he is found guilty because he is black. In the end, Tom Robinson was killed. His life could have been spared if only he weren?

t black. Bob Ewell and Atticus are on completely different sides. Bob is racist and Atticus is not. Bob Ewell accused Tom Robinson of rape because he knew Tom would go to jail because he is black. Atticus knows Bob Ewell?

s plan and tries to get Bob condemned instead of Tom Robinson. They fight in court over whether or not Tom Robinson is guilty when the truth is obvious. After the trial, Bob Ewell stops Atticus on the post office corner. He spit in his face and threatened to kill him even if it took the rest of his life.

Atticus walks away instead of fighting back. Atticus is smart and he knows that fighting back wouldn? t help the situation; it also wouldn? t get Tom Robinson out of jail.

All this happens because Atticus is a white man who is defending a black man. The majority of the population was racist and judged black people by the color of their skin and nothing else. This book demonstrates many different points of view on racism, as well as the unjustified discrimination against black people. Racism was a part of everyday life, and most white people. Racism was considered to be a healthy part of life, and most white people were brought up to believe that black people were trash, which is definitely not true.

Skin color has nothing to do with who you are inside, and that is what counts. We are all part of the human race.
