Bristol-Myers Squibb is the product of a merger between Bristol-Myers and Squibb Company in 1989. Bristol-Myers was originally Clinton Pharmecutical's, a failing drug manufacturing firm. In 1887 William McLaren Bristol and John Ripley Myers invested five thousand dollars in the company and on December 13, 1887 became president and vice president respectively. In 1898 the name was changed from Clinton Pharmaceutical Company to Bristol, Myers Company. In 1899, after Myers death, the comma was replaced by a hyphen.
In 1856 Edward Robinson Squibb founded a pharmaceutical company in Brooklyn, New York. In 1895 the company became E. R. Squibb 038; Sons when Squibb passed most of the responsibility to his sons. The company was then sold to Lowell M. Palmer and Theodore Writer in 1905.
Then in 1989 came the merger of Bristol-Myers and Squibb creating, what was then, the second largest pharmaceutical enterprise in the world. Bristol-Myers Squibb currently employs over 57, 000 people in more than 60 countries around the world. M at New York University (1965). After earning his L. L. B he got a job at Middlebank, Tweed, Hadley, 038; McCloy Law Firm. After leaving there in 1963 he held several legal and operating positions. In 1981 Heimbold became Senior Vice President of Planning and Development at Bristol-Myers Squibb.
After receiving this position he kept climbing the corporate ladder at Bristol-Myers Squibb until reaching his current position of chairman and CEO.
