Centennial Book Review 1. Death plays a large role in Michener s book because it is treated so causally. Michener s book is quite long, covering many years, and many places. Ifeach death were to be described deeply then the book would be over twice it s length. Since the book isold over a long period of time, no one person could live throughout the whole thing, so death is inevitable.
Michener repeats the concept only rocks live forever presenting the reality in the book. I believe that Levi Zendt played the most important role in the development of the Centennial community. Centennial was originally knows as Zendt s Farm.
Zendt founded and established the whole community. He shared his land and himself with the farmers, ranchers, shepard's and people of different races. 3. The dry land farmers gained their enlightenment from the technique developed by Dr. Creek. He invented this technique to farm in areas that received very little rain. This practice included not letting one drop of rain escape, plowing and planting in thrall, plowing at least 10 inches deep, then dining, then harrowing the soil into a powder.

Michener seemed to mix different people at different points in history, and all tie them together at then. For example, Pasquinel was greatly appreciated bythe Indians in the beginning of the story, then Levi Zendt joins in, and all of the other characters are all connected in some way.
This began to get kind of confusing at points because there were so many different characters that I had to keep track of. But the contrary, the Centennial is a great work of history and opened my eyes to appreciate American history.
