Matthew Fox is the president of the University of Creation Spirituality and co-director of the Naropa Institute's program in creation spirituality. The ramifications of computers in our society are unimaginable. Computers posses the ability to educate people from simple reading and math to complex medical problems and space explorations.
Computers educate individuals in such a way that it improves their life by learning about health issues or by gaining important skills that will help them out in the work force. Technology has a tremendous positive side but it does have a slight negative side. Since the American industrial revolution, man has polluted the earth more in the last hundred years than any other time in history. We have been very destructive and irresponsible in the ways we treat our land but we have definitely changed our bad habits. From companies dumping their toxic waste into our lakes, that contaminate our drinking waters, to fast food restaurants using styrofoam, which aren't biodegradable, society had heard the cry's of nature. There have been federal mandates for policy changes in the amount of pollution that is sent out as trash.
The only reason we have done such a bad job in taking care of the environment is because we lacked the knowledge of how we were affecting the earth and how to go about to change it. True there has been some irreversible damage to the earth but it pales in comparison to the amount of positive achievements we have made. With the great advancement in technologies has also produced many items that are now helping the clean up of our lands. There will always be drawbacks to ever technology created by man. Man created fire for warmth and light.
It then was used for a weapon. We must always monitor all advancements we make or they will harm us. The invention of computers has paved the way to the internet. That has paved the way for many young children to have access to pornography. Yes, this can be considered an evil devise but with proper care it can be a very important tool. Our society becomes more and more advance every year.
We have gain valuable knowledge of how the world works and how we can go about using its resources to save nature and us. As technology evolves so will we with it. We are learning to cherish the gifts it has given us and devising news ways to keep it clean.
