Smoking is one of the major health dangers that might affect contemporary students, and since I was smoking at some point of my life, I believe that it did affect my health. Health can be defined as an overall condition of ones organism, the harmony between all of its parts that results in efficient functioning of any human being. (Weizner, p. 45) Now that I have quit smoking, I can see both short term and long term effects of it. I was a subject to the shirt term effects, and if I had not quit, I would have also experienced the long term effects. The shirt term effects were: coughing, hard breathing sometimes, inability to run for a long time. I became aware of those effects after devoting some time to health education, which can be described as any activity that makes a person aware of potential hazards and drawbacks of any activity as well as makes a person aware of how to prevent it. (Weizner, p. 54) As for the long term effects of my smoking, I got to know how it could ended up by means of health promotion. Health promotion is wide range of activities that is directed at motivating people of all ages to live healthy lives and avoid any types of activities that would cause their health to deteriorate. (Byrne, p. 18) By means of health promotion, I got to know the long term effects of smoking: lung cancer, deteriorated health in general, inability to take part in most of the sports activities because of bad breathing, etc.

I believe that health education and health promotion campaigns that exist in our country help greatly those who want to quit smoking. Those interventions are the measures taken by the government or non profit organizations to ensure that society at large realizes importance of being in good health and all the potential dangers of things that might deteriorate ones health. Not only those campaigns (interventions) make people aware of all the potential hazards, but also suggest efficient ways as for how to quit smoking in a really short period of time and without any emotional breakdowns related to quitting that bad habit. I think more campaigns can be introduced to the general public that would help people overcome smoking. For instance, interviews with famous athletes that have never smoked in their entire lives would motivate many teenagers quit smoking, since some of them have those athletes as their role models. Besides, lung cancer as potential result of smoking could be elaborated on within the scope of those campaigns, and that would certainly make more people aware of all the dangers of smoking and even make some of them quit.

Overall, I am really optimistic about my health right now, I believe that quitting smoking was one of the wisest decisions I have made in my entire life and I suggest that everyone should devote at least some time to health education and promotion campaigns in order to get rid of bad habits that might deteriorate ones health.
