Dreams It is proved by scientists that all people have dreams. Some people pay much attention to the meaning of their dreams and some even build their lives around the dreams they have had. It seems, that attitude towards seriousness and symbolism of dreaming is formed depending on the culture the person was growing up in. For the purposes of this research, two people from different cultures were interviewed. It is interesting how polar opposite their attitudes to dreams were. The first interviewee was born and raised in Ukraine.

He identified himself as an ethnic Ukrainian, whose first language is Ukrainian and who raises his children according to Ukrainian traditions. This persons religion is Christianity, and he belongs to the Russian Orthodox Church. The interviewee comes from Ukraine's rural area, so he says that national traditions have been given to him with his mothers milk. According to this man, dreams are paid very much attention to in Ukraine. There are usually old people who are asked to interpret dreams, in cases when dreams are confusing or misleading. Also, people use special dream-interpreting books and Internet sites.

In Ukrainian culture, dreams are especially paid attention to when a person has started a new project, is in the middle of something important or just wants to know what the future has prepared for him. Even thought dreams and dream-interpretation is important in Ukraine, they still are much less important than regular daily life for people. The interviewee says that there is a great deal of entertainment, putting a mind off the harsh reality and anxiousness for a good future in dream interpreting. The whole family might share their dreams and each member will give his / her interpretation of someones dream at a breakfast time.

However, not so many people will actually remember about that dream when he / she goes out to reality. The interviewee says that dreams do not affect him in his daily life, although he analyzes them on his way to work in the morning. He also mentioned that his mood for the day is sometimes shaped by whether he had a pleasant or an unpleasant dream. The interviewed person is extremely active, and according to him, the only way to make a decision and concentrate for him is to exercise. The interviewee thinks that personal or negative attitude is the factor that influences dreams the most: if one goes to bad in lifted spirits, he is bound to have a great dream. The other interviewed person was born, raised and now lives in Netherlands.

The person in Dutch, and her native language is Dutch. She is Christian, but says that had been to the church ages ago. She says that in her family (just as in most Dutch families) dreams were not important at all. The only case when they were important was when somebody would have a nightmare.

Only then would a whole family come and comfort the person and try to set him / her to have a more positive dream. The interviewee said that dreams have absolutely no effect on daily lives of the people. Everybody goes along with his / her daily routine and does not care what will come to him / her when they sleep. Dreams are interpreted only on Christmas, and that is done mostly for fun. The interviewee said that dreams might have been important for the Dutch in the last century, but now when the new dynamic life, people simply do not have time to think about something unimportant such as meaning of the dreams.

When a new idea comes to the mind of the interviewed person, she likes to go to park and think about it lying on a blanket looking in the sky. She explained that her daily thought usually have no effect on the dreams she has at night, probably because her brain gets so tired during the day that it lets itself to rest at night. This little research, which consisted of two interviews with people from different cultures, showed very clearly that perception of dreams and their importance depends on the background of the given person. Some cultures tell people to listen to their dreams, as they are believed to be indicators of brains unconscious processes, which are the most true and helpful in the daily lives. People from other cultures do not believe that there is absolutely any connection between night-dreaming and real life.
