Gotti Case It is very evident that modern life is full of contrast. Very often we cannot give a certain estimation to different processes which happen in our life. The case with famous rap singers (Gotti) can be treated to those cases. There are several approaches to the problem.

Lets try to examine it from different point of view (realistic, surrealistic and absurd). Realistic approach can be defined as a concern for fact or reality. The facts are that hip-hop singers Irving Lorenzo and Christopher Lorenzo (who took the street name of "Gotti) were brought to trail in two cases: laundering Mc Griff's narcotics cash and provoking the shooting of 50 Cent (a well known rapper) with the purpose to strengthen their Empire. But the case seems to be a good spectacle with stars like Jay-Z, Ashanti and Ja Rule. Famous rap stars came to court for supporting the brothers. The brothers (Irving, and Christopher) come from humble origins.

They were born in southern Queens. According to court papers their parents prevented them from any bad boys that could lead them to gang or drug activity. But Irving Lorenzo said that he grew up poor. So he had friends from the streets. He said that he did not plead himself guilty in anything wrong.

The only thing, he was devoted to, was creating music for people. But can we consider his words to be true? The problem is that the bigger part of Lorenzo's activity was closely connected with some doubtful cases. For example, in 1999 Irving Lorenzo founded the Murder Inc... Nowadays it is known as The Inc. His brother Christopher Lorenzo helped little brother Irving in his music career At that time Irving worked in the city's biggest nightclubs.

So, they established the Murder Inc, which was called the most dangerous record company. Also they took their nicknames after the notorious Gaming crime family. The facts emphasize some aggressive beginning. The other factors, which testified against the brothers, were their surrounding. As prosecutors say Lorenzo's were surrounded by criminals. Irving's bodyguard was sentenced, and Christopher's driver was a drug dealer.

So, it was announced that the brothers know Mc Griff well. As it was alleged, the Murder Inc was founded with Mc Griff's cash. It is evident that before Irving Lorenzo and his brother became powerful and rich, they were not the object for looking out for. A lot of people think that the key to Lorenzo's's unless was in Mc Griff's support, in his muscle and money.

But so is the world of show business! As it was said that contacts with Mc Griff provided them with "street credibility"; and there were nothing illegal in their relationship. Most of all Mc Griff for a long time was a friend of them, as Christopher Lorenzo told. He helped Murder Inc. to look for new talents, and credit them with money.

Kenneth Mc Griff is often known as "Supreme." He knew all the truth about the rough world of rap music. As he said that in the rap world everything is based on fame and fortune. Taking into account the close connections between defendants and drug king, leader of the feared Supreme Team in South Jamaica, prosecutors were sure that the brothers took part in laundering Mc Griff's dirty money. It happened when the company paid for his hotel and airline expenses etc. The laundered sum is seemed to be about $ 1 million in drug cash. Lorenzo's attorney said that his client knew Mc Griff, but did not get any drug money.

During the process it was emphasized for several times that bad reputation of the Mafia boss was important in the rap world. Prosecutors were sure that it would be easy to prove the guilty of the Murder Inc. They tried to prove that by laundering Mcgriff's money Chris and Irv tried to be guaranteed with street credibility. But the defense lawyer called their story - a one of American dream. It means that Gotti reached the success working hard, without any dirty money. The case was called an attempt to prove guilt by association; and reached the size of a real war on hip hop.

Though there was a witness Philip Banks Later he was a member of Mc Griff's Supreme Team. He testified that he delivered to Irving Lorenzo. He carried out the drug boss' orders. Then he answered that the money was received by selling drugs because they had no another source of incomes.

The case seemed to be held up. From on side it was evident that the defendants could help the drug dealer to launder a big sum of money in the entertainment industry. From the other side there was an opinion that it was a sort of race discrimination; because there was nothing illegal if black men help others who have criminal records. The other case, examined in the court, was about the shooting of the rapper 50 cent. The problem is that for many years the 50 Cent has been involved in a rivalry with the Murder Inc. There was another version.

It said that the start for the incident was 50 Cents song "Ghetto Koran" about Mc Griff. Mc Griff made an attempt to organize murder of rapper 50 Cent in 2000 as payback for an insult in a song. The third one, on which prosecutors allege, was the version that Mc Griff wanted to help Lorenzo to conquer the music empire. 50 Cent do not commented much on Ja Rule's and Irv Gotti's situation. In the balance there was the future of the group and her leaders. On the morning opening statements (Tuesday), November 16 Irving "Gotti" Lorenzo and his brother Christopher not guilty to money laundering and the case with 50 cent. Gotti refused any wrong deeds in both cases; though neither brother is charged with a crime of violence or ordering Mc Griff to hurt anyone, both cases are plenty dirty.

Having examined some facts from different sources, we can get the whole picture of the events. As it is known that realistic approach always is based on facts and direct proves. From this point of view it is evident that there were some relationships, business and personal, between the Mafia boss and famous par musicians. From the realistic point of view all contradictions of the life are seen. It is true that the life of show business is very rough and immoral. It happens because show business needs big money, first of all.

Then the rules of this world are very severe. If you are just a beginner, you have to find for somebody much more powerful and rich then you. A beginner needs this reputation, even if it is bad. As a rule bad reputation of gangsters and Mafia boss is of greater value then others. That is the reality of our life. Surrealism is quite opposite to realism.

It means expression of imagination. I think that the story has a strong surrealistic approach. As it was said in the beginning it seemed that the process had a good spectacle origin. Besides almost all the evidences were circumstantial, so they have no strong ground. As it was pointed by the defense lawyer that the case looked like to prove guilt by association. We can make a conclusion that persecutors based their questions on one main point: What if If Gotti had friendly links with Mafia bosses it might meant that they could receive money from drugs.

It seems that the process is fabricated with the purpose to increase the reputation of the group. (it is well known that bad reputation is much more resulting hen good one). Absurdity can be observed in any field of show business life. The biggest absurdity of the process is that there is no shame for wrong deeds. In the world of show business we can come in touch with it in many cases.

Gotti were prosecuted in such horrible things, but they are acquitted with the help of so unreliable reason that the show business world demand it! May be the Murder Inc. were not involved in all of the processes, but the moral and psychological aspects of their acquittal (which were proposed by rap leaders and from the public opinion) was absurd. It is my point of view. Bibliography: John, Marzulli. New York Daily News: Ja Rule blasts trial against 'Gotti' Bros, Nov. , 14 th, 2005 web
