Large airlines face increased competition from low-cost carriers while they continue to address labor costs. Suppliers: High fuel prices have squeezed the entire industry, it may translate to fewer seats and higher prices in 2005. [ 2 ] Companies providing substitute products: ATA Airlines, Inc. (OTC: ATAHQ - News) today announced its "Sale of the Season" for Fort Wayne and South Bend. Price savings will allow customers sale fares on new nonstop service to Indianapolis and convenient connecting service to many great ATA destinations. [ 2 ] Companies who might enter the industry and what might be there to stop them, in the form of barriers to entry: US airlines are under federal bankruptcy court protection. The Air Transport Association and its member airlines are pleased to learn that President Bush has asked Secretary of Transportation Norm Mineta to continue to lead the Department of Transportation.

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is allowing some airlines to carry less fuel on selected routes to help them cope with rising fuel costs that threaten to cripple some carriers. UAL, the world's second-largest airline, said pay cuts ranging from 4 percent to 11 percent will save $ 112 million annually. About 8, 500 workers will be affected. United Airlines took a first step toward achieving the additional labor savings it seeks in bankruptcy, imposing wage reductions on its 8, 500 nonunion employees that include an 11 percent pay cut for CEO Glenn Tilton and other top executives.
