Sacrificing Freedoms Temporarily to Enjoy Them in the Long Run In the wake of events of 9 / 11 many people in America began questioning whether civil rights in our country need to be provided to them at any cost. There is no doubt that, those who declared war on America, would do their utmost to undermine the security of Americans. The fact that all the citizens enjoy certain freedoms makes it easy for international terrorists to blend in society. This problem especially became acute recently. Muslim terrorists in America can be more easily identified because of their racial characteristics, yet it is unthinkable for American government to apply racial profiling to its own citizens on the large scale. In 2003 the French government has banned wearing Muslim turbans by students in schools.
This issue was surrounded by the hysteria, raised by human-rights activists. They were pointing out that under no circumstances people could be restricted in how they behave. Yet, majority of French people are strongly in favor of putting an end to their country turning into New Pakistan. The issue of whether we need to stick to the concept of human rights as something that define American internal and foreign policies, has become the subject of numerous discussions in press and on TV.
On one hand, we have those who say that under no circumstances our civil rights and freedom can be restricted, as they are fundamental principles upon our society is based. Our society is multicultural, yet the concept of human rights has originated in Europe. There are many countries in the world that declare it selves as democracies, while essentially remaining a deputies. North Korea is a republic, yet its people do not have even a fraction of those freedoms that citizens of Great Britain possess, living in monarchic country... We dont have to be afraid of criticism from abroad as long as America enjoys superior position in worlds affairs. But here is a danger of internal discontent among citizens because the majority of medias are being critical of what our government does. Thats why Id also suggest that their ability to sow the seeds of such displeasure has to be considerably reduced. Americans need to be strong while facing terrorism; therefore politicians cannot promote any political or racial secularism. Whiners and saboteurs have to be temporarily locked away for their own good this has been a common practice in many countries throughout the ages, in times of war. Civil rights and freedoms cannot be taken away, but they need to be reduced so that people will be able to enjoy them, once there is no threat of terrorism.
