Describing of the characters of the film Marty using the psychologists view It is common knowledge, that cinematograph is one of the greatest inventions of the latest hundreds of years. It reflects not only the story itself, as it can be represented for example in a book, but also gives us a wonderful possibility of watching the real emotions, mimicry and gesture. All this in total helps us in our way of understanding the problem and trying to compare the situation shown on a wide screen with the situations we have in the daily life. Moreover, it builds our imagination in some way. It is an absolutely natural thing that during the existence of the cinematograph a lot of outstanding works have appeared. It could be named many titles of such famous films, but however they have some similar features.

Such features are: topicality, lecture ness, sprightliness and so on. Oh, and of course it should be optimistic as well. In this essay I would like to talk about the characters of the film Marty. Some interesting characters are represented here. I must say it was not an easy thing to decide whose personality of the represented people I would like to describe, as everyone of the described characters embodies different features and is an individual type of a person in general. Personally for me there were such attractive characters as Marty's mother, Mrs.

Pilletti, Clara, Herb and finally Marty's friend Angie was also interesting for me. But the person, who provoked a lot of thoughts in my mind, was Marty himself. This main hero also provoked creating of a great number of ideas in my head, so I would like to express them in my essay. Marty is a person, who is already not very young. It is also possible to say, that he is already approaching to becoming a middle-aged man.

At the same time he is lonely. He has neither wife nor bride. Of course, in such case it is impossible to talk about any children. As a rule, children bring happiness to the family and brighten the life of the people. By the way, Marty lives with his mother.

His mother is a fifty-six years old person, who already faced with widowhood. She is not young, she is in the old age and I suppose she understands that clearly. In the center of the plot is a problem which is, by the way, very frequent today. So, as it was already said earlier, Marty is single. In his thirty-four years age he had never been married. He is fed up of listening lots of reproaches, instructions and admonitions from the people around.

It also seems to me that he has no many people around him. The closest people he has are his mother and his friend Angie, nice and decent character. One day Angie and Marty had a conversation. They were speaking about the way of spending the time in the evening. Finally, it resulted in a dispute. Angie proposed his friend to go for a walk and finally to go to the Stardust Ballroom, but Marty preferred to stay around the house with a couple of cans of beer watching the Hit Parade on the TV-set.

Is that normal for a lonely man to spend the evenings at home just drinking beer and watching the TV? I think that is not so. Of course, it is possible to do so sometimes, but not regularly, especially if somebody proposes you some other variant. Angie watches his friends behavior and doesnt keep back the thoughts he has on the matter.

I liked a lot Angie. He is a kind and educated person, who wants to help his friend, who experience some difficulties in building his family and his fate in general. Angie is un doubtfully good-natured person. It is seen clearly, that Marty is fed up of hearing Get married! all the time. Such phrases, told by the people he is surrounded by irritate him.

But one can understand him. For example, if I were him, I dont think I could support hearing the phrases like that every day. He even says that everybody who repeats that from time to time drives him crazy. Marty adds that he is driven crazy by his own mother. No doubt, such an unpleasant fact concentrates attention on the situation they have at home and sharpens conflict moments. By the way, remembering some cases from the everyday life one can say, that frequently, if a person hears something for many times (in our case it is a phrase Get married!

or Honey, when shall you get married? ! etc. ) a person begins to hate the idea of getting married itself. In this way a person demonstrates its resistance, if it is possible to say so. Marty has a numerous family. He has brothers and sisters, which are younger that he is. All his brothers and sisters are already married and, moreover, they are happy in their marriage.

It might seem that Marty has good examples of happy marriages and must be married too. But something is disturbing him during all that years of being single and prevents him on the way to getting married. Is that bad or good? Well, that is neither bad nor good. That is not bad because he gives the impression of a smart person, who just wants to think over everything thoroughly and consider all the pro and contra for several times.

Or, perhaps, he wants some freedom But it is also not very good, because it is not completely naturally for a man of his age to be single. What shall he leave after himself? Shall his mother have a happy old age if he wont marry? Well, I think she wont.

Thus, he deprives the possibility of being happy not only himself, but also his widowed mother, who, like every old woman just wants to care her grandchildren. To my mind, Marty's mother, Mrs. Theresa Piletti is unhappy woman. Normally, a woman of her age wants to feel herself wanted and beloved in a family life and in family relations in general. She wants to spend all her time, caring her grandchildren and also her own children even if they are already enough grown up. That is not a secret, that children are always little for their parents.

But Mrs. Theresa has no grandchildren and can not brag about being useful to her family, to the family of her son. Instead of that she just has a situation, in which she must compel her son to go out from the house at the weekend in order to communicate with some people and, of course, in order to look for some nice and interesting woman he would like to marry with. This situation bears resemblance to that when parents compel their child to do the home tasks they were given at school.

That is why I consider Marty is very similar to a little boy with lots of weak points. Marty is an unusual personality. He does not make the things just because everybody does that. He sees many married people around himself.

As far as I understood many of that people are happy of being together. But Marty is not the sort of man. The situation he has in his life is not that which is normally expected. Sometimes Marty's brother, who is already married, talks to his mother giving some advices about what one can do in order to help Marty in looking for some girl.

When Marty gets to know who gave such advices to his mother, he gets little bit exasperated. According to the Marty's words, he is looking for a woman every Saturday night of his life. Before he met a girl he became interested in, Marty had some attempts of talking to some women. But it was a pitiful sight.

For example, when he was talking by the phone to Mary Feeney, Marty was very nervous. He was too nervous, I should say. It seems to me, that this conversation wasnt a pleasant experience for Mary Feeney. Marty was floundering, twitching and sometimes he even spoke without any clear understanding what is going on. During the conversation he unwittingly showed his diffidence. Poor man, there are no more such undesirable features for man (especially for the single man in the situation we have) as diffidence and uncertainty in his own forces.

A person must be strong in its mind and have self-reliance. It is very important, especially on the modern life. Although, it had always been important. According to the stereotypes, such a duty of being strong is ascribing first of all to men. One day Marty and Clara had an interesting conversation. They were talking about the beauty.

It turned out, that Marty connects a physical beauty with a beauty of mind. He told Clara about his father, who, according to his words, was a really ugly man. But he was adored by his wife as he was a very kind person. Marty adds that it was one of the most beautiful things in his life to see the wonderful relationships of his parents. It may well be that during a lot of years he was afraid of being unhappy in marriage instead of enjoying as somewhen his parents did.

Personally I am sure, that there are no cases, when people do not have a pair. They just have to look for it and thus it would be found. Sooner or later as Marty says. But when Marty meets a girl the situation changes completely. It even seems that his diffidence disappears little by little and that out hero becomes more and more confident in his own forces and feelings. I should admit an interesting and very important detail: he does not afraid to express his feelings.

Thus, spending his time with Clara he says that he is having a very good time with her. That is not a surprise, that very soon their relationships began blossoming like a beautiful flower. He is very open person, especially if the matter touches upon his feelings. Somewhen I thought that a person of Marty's type would not express his feelings in such an easy and unsuspecting, trustful manner without any kind of afraid ing of being teared away. Frequently people of this type keep on being a little secluded for some period of time. But Marty is not so.

Perhaps in this his originality and strangeness are concluded. The story silences and sets thinking on the problems of human-being and especially on the nature itself of being together with somebody. However, it is not always so bad to marry in the middle-age. But, of course, one must be reasonable. Such problems with marriage may appear because of desire to consider all the pro and contra or because of some complexes, among which one of the most horrible's an inferiority complex. Anyway, people would be much more happier if they shall understand clearly what they want and how to achieve their goal.

Watching the film for several times I remembered many of Marty's phrases and expressions. He is an interesting personality. At some instant he seems to be boring, but there is one interesting fact: Marty never provoked any unpleasant impressions to a person, who is viewing a film and never created any negative emotions. The first thing I can suppose is that Marty is a small child who has no feeling of responsibility. Perhaps, when he was really a little boy, his parents did not create a sense of responsibility in his mind. Thus, now, being already a grown-up man he has no feeling of responsibility concerning his own life and fortune.
