The life of geniuses by the example of two heroes of the famous movies: Will Hunting and John Nash. Modern people almost forgot about the right definition of the word genius. In our modern society we usually call so the people who can make big money no matter what they do for it. But this word always meant the people with the outstanding mental capacities who make scientific discoveries and it takes them much less time than plane people need for it. More precisely, genius is the person who: 1) has heightened, potential inner life 2) whose activity has not only personal, but common patrimonial value (for peoples or for all humanity). Greatness, as the maximum degree of endowments, compared to the talent is not subject to exact definition; the distinction is conditional, attempts of strict differentiation are arbitrary and there application is disputably.

In different languages word the word genius is used in a different measure and with various shades; Frenchmen are the most prodigal for it Englishmen use this word less often; Germans are inclined to limit it to the area of art creativity and speculation; Germans, and Russian more differentiate it with a talent, rather than Frenchmen and Englishmen. But still this word means the person who has an outstanding brain by nature. Every person can think out new software for the computer, but not everybody can solve the most difficult sum without any preparation. Geniuses are usually by nature but they live in different conditions that usually are not appropriate for the development of their intellectual capacities. Usually they have to struggle in order to make people know about them and to get a chance to show their worth. Many of them are wasted having no opportunity to show their talent.

Fortunately, famous producers decided to pay attention to this problem. Today TV can influence the people mentality much so this approach is very beneficial and can awake in our people the interest to this question. Lets compare two films about it: Good Will Hunting and Beautiful Mind. In fact we are to compare not two films but two heroes: Will Hunting and John Nash, two people with the outstanding mental capacities. First I would like to define what they have in common. At the first sight they seem to have the same problem we described above: they have the talent but dont have the opportunity to show it.

Both of them have to go through a lot of difficulties to reach the goal and these difficulties differ much from the difficulties of the other people. Will is only a teenager form the street who happened to have the outstanding capacities. He worked as a cleaner in the university, of course he cant come there next day as a student. And the most difficult is not to get the opportunity to study for him, but to make him understand that he really must do so. It is really difficult to explain to the spoiled teenager that he is created to make scientific discoveries. John Nash has the same problem.

He wants to study and do his best but he meets the opposition from the people around him. Secondly, both of them have the problems in the communication. It is very difficult to imagine a boy like Will among the students of the exclusive establishment. Will Hunting is only twenty; he already has a strong position among the environment in Southern Boston. Similarly to his friends, he sometimes is doing dirty job between a sit-round gathering in a local bar, and he has problems with police.

He has never been to college, except for that time when he was the cleaner in the Institute of technology. John Nash also could hardly blend with the Princeton's surrounding. The situation is the same with attending of classes. So the both can hardly blend with the staff they appeared in, they have problems in the communication. It always happens to the gifted people because unfortunately they are not understood by the people that surrounded them and very often become social outcasts.

Will even has double problem: not having a desire to stay along he is afraid of become an outcast among his friend from the street and at the same time is afraid to enter the new world that is opened before him. Thirdly also both of them met their love and it was the help to understand much... Will met the love which came to him in the person of the student Scalar, and only then he could overcome the complex of vulnerability and uncertainty. He looked deeper in his soul and opened himself for something higher and more beautiful than he knew before: I feel something I dont know what and I doubt if I need it but it is something unusual and stupendous. For the first time I realize that I can do something myself, not even thinking about others and this idea makes me happy.

John also meets his love, which was unknown for him by that time. This new feeling is brought in his life by the beauty Alicia Lard, the student from faculty of physics. Soon John Nash and Alicia Lard got married. But even then Nash cannot tell his wife about the mission assigned to him.

And, the work, the privacy of which he is obliged to keep, and the danger connected to it, started to affect. John becomes secretive, crazy about the one idea and eventually in general ceases to distinguish a reality from fiction. The diagnosis is simply amazing - paranoid schizophrenia. At the first moment Alicia is shocked by this news. She loves the abnormal genius! As every day their life will more and more be saddened with the difficulties which have fallen down on them and new horrors, relations become complicated.

But nevertheless Alicia is capable to discern, in this sick person, completely left to the fantastic world, that charming man which she has once fallen in love with. It helps her not to surrender and remain close in spite of anything. Eventually, John Nash supported by love and belief in success of the wife, decides to overcome the illness which is considered incurable. Now John Nash has completely different, simpler tasks. But it is very difficult to fulfill them. He is still pursued by the imaginations, and also exhausting mathematical calculations.

But he should learn to live as the normal person, to stabilize the condition. Extremely due to the will he does not cease to work and in 1994 receives the Nobel Prize. His theory of the games which was thought up by him in a youth, now began the one of basic all over the world. And John Nash became the person with fine heart and not less fine thinking Here we can automatically define the next common thing: the both heroes have psychological problems that become obstacles to the realization of their gift. Making analysis of these two people we understand that having the same talent, they have many differences: First, they have completely different conditions and appeared in completely different situations. Will Hunting is only twenty; he has nothing to stand out against a background of the severe area of southern Boston occupied by Irish workers.

But he is really beautiful like a secret inside him. He works as a cleaner in one of the most prestigious universities (Boston is a city of intellectuals), washes floors and listens to lectures in between times. The spectator finds out his secret very soon: Will has unique mental capacities and photographic memory", that allows to learn any subject with the textbook perusal speed. The exact sciences for him are the same that music for Beethoven or Mozart.

He knows so much from various sources of information, that many can only dream about. The professor noted his talent and decided to help the boy to develop it. The situation of John Nash is completely different. He comes to Princeton in 1948. He specializes in mathematics.

The mysterious genius of the Western Virginia " has neither experience of preparatory school nor parental means to soften his first acquaintance to a society of exclusive persons. The only thing he has to prove the right for study at this well-known university is the most prestigious grant of Princeton. Here we can already see the second difference. It is difficult for heroes to use their talent but their reasons are completely different. Will has everything: support and help, but no desire while John on the contrary has a desire but have no support and understanding. For John all the subtleties of communication do not mean anything.

John Nash has one problem which he is entirely and completely absorbed by: it is necessary for him to make a discovery. He thinks that it is the only way to make his way in the world. He has his goal and this goal is brilliant while Will Hunting do not even think about it. It is very difficult to explain to the unmanageable teenager the importance of his talent. Wills secret is opened by the director with an ingenious thrift.

Even fight of this guy occurs with a delay, as though after a step, he only then understood, that it is necessary not to be allocated on a background of the friends with which he grew and lives together. They are the fragile partition between his private world and a reality which he is afraid to enter. He is just afraid with the maximalist of still childs soul. After the fight will appears on a dock, he may be imprisoned, but the professor of mathematics who was found out about his rare gift, brings pledge for him and employs the psychologist that is one of conditions of clearing on bails. The mathematician with a world name wants to get the right to work with the guy on the specialty. After some stars have come to full grief to teach the very difficult teenager, the loser" agrees to do that.

Then "the duel" begins in which one of the sides, namely Will Hunting, in any way does not want to admit, that the pistol is directed to him, and the opponent, substituting own heart, saves the young man with Einstein's brain and rather limited own life experience from elementary self-destruction: you live and dont know what you live for, you have no goal, no hope but you may get it and get it from the inside of your soul. In contrast to Will John fights himself without any support and his fight is serous. Faculty of mathematics of Princeton is a place of the most severe competition. And, it is necessary to recognize, that John Nash's many classmates would be inexpressibly glad at his failure. But nevertheless they should be reconciled with his presence, and, completely involuntarily, they push him to success. Once Nash goes together with them in a bar where one incident draws his attention.

He observes a curious stage when his friends start to stick to one attractive blonde. Their rivalry unexpectedly helps the young man to understand and formulate precisely an idea which did not allow him to rest for long enough time. His theory, mathematics of competitions, completely contradicts Adam Smith's doctrines, the founder of modern economy. In a flash this, would seem the indestructible theory existing without small already of 150 years, becomes obsolete, and the life of the young genius varies once and forever. The young scientists says: I created the theory that more suits modern world that the previous ones we used to use elsewhere. With the help of his discovery John Nash receives the desired sanction to teach and research works in MEATH.

But his desires and aspiration do not come to the end after that, he is not completely satisfied: I still do nothing and wanna do more. The science has played the big role in a successful outcome of the Second World war for America. And now, in the heat of cold war, John Nash cannot remain aside, he thirsts to play any role in the developed conflict. His dream becomes a reality when mysterious William Partner gives him the super confidential task. John Nash becomes the breaker of the codes of the opponent. Here I should also admit that sometimes the talent is used for the dishonorable goals that should not take place.

And the next difference between these two films that arrests our attention is that the film Good Will Hunting is much less realistic than Beautiful mind. It looks like a fairytale about Cinderella where a boy from the street gets a chance to become famous scientist after he was noticed by the professor, who says: I dont want to allow the Einsteins brain to die. You should remember how it happened: at night Will solved the sum on the blackboard. And the professor who revealed his talent had to understand that it is almost impossible to teach the guy who is already adult and not accustomed to study.

In real life it happens very rarely. But the idea of the Beautiful mind is very relevant. It shows the problems that many gifted people face. Genius are not understood by others and have to stay along. John Nash is a bright example of it. The plot of the film is based on a real life of John Nash who created the theory of games and has received the Nobel Prize in the field of economics and mathematics in 1994.

The outstanding scientists really suffered schizophrenia for years, but managed to overcome the illness. Now after defining the differences and common in two personalities we can already turn to the main idea of these two films that unites them. First of all the directors of the film wanted to show our poor spoiled society. Really now it has no place for talent, very less attention is paid to the development of science. Our teenagers have no opportunity and - what is the most important - have no desire to make discoveries in the field of science. Gifted people are usually considered to be mad.

Lets lust read the conclusion made by scientists who studied gifted people: By artificial means today it would be possible to make the genius of any person. But it is dangerous. The normal person is designed so that to be able to do everything - to think, run, jump, love, etc. But Genius are the people with abnormality some qualities of which have developed due to others. For example, for Einstein who has made break in area absolutely forbidden by logic, it was extremely difficult to contact with other people!

Many geniuses were simply sick people. It is well known, that some of the most famous poets were schizoid psychopaths. And Nietzsche and V rubel spent their last years in a madhouse. Some experts consider, that the brain of the majority of geniuses "is liberated" because of illness. So, it is possible to crumple intentionally the detector of mistakes, or the the block of greatness... And to make "to order" ingenious mathematicians, physicists, artists.

The nature very avariciously distributes the abilities between people and measures them. One is compensated to another. For example mentally retarded people - possess special talents to creativity. They show low results in tests for intelligence, are almost unable to communicate.

But at the same time are talented in mathematics, music, and the fine arts. Just because of the existence of such conclusions, written by intelligent people, there is no place for gifted in our society. Geniuses become social outcasts and maybe because of that they have psychological problems. Nobody wants to be a genius just look at Will Hunting.

I am sure that he is afraid of becoming famous scientists also because he doesnt want his friends to laugh at him. Our young people is brought up in the atmosphere that is not intended for the development of their scientific abilities. Not a small part of our teenagers are spoiled and no matter if they study in a college or just spending time in the street, they still have very little desire to become a famous scientists one day. Our young people also read the abovementioned conclusions and start to think that it is very bad to be a genius and an outstanding person in the field of science. It is not difficult to imagine the future of the society where the abovementioned ideas take place. In Beautiful mind we see how the talent is used for the dishonorable goals that should not take place in our world course it can stop the development of our science.

Our modern world only has the place for drugs, alcohol, gain that destroys peoples mentality and leads us to the decay and degradation. Just look: talented boy happened to be the spoiled teenager and gifted scientist is killed with uncured disease! Our two heroes carry one common mission: they are mutineers against these conditions. And at the end we see the victory and who knows, maybe one day well manage to stop the destruction and turn to the development.
