Sexual disorders Sexual disorders are disorders related to a particular phase of the sexual response cycle. They may arise from multiple causes. Their clinical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment must take into account the patient's underlying biology, history, and behaviors. For example, sexual dysfunctions include sexual desire disorders, sexual arousal disorders, orgasm disorders, and sexual pain disorders.

So when someone has sex with himself / herself , it doesn't always go as smoothly as wanted. Sexual disorders problems are long lasting and are related to sexual contact. The problems influence the life of a person and his or her relationships in such a way that they suffer from them and they exist in all various forms. Sexual problems may be classified as physiological, psychological and social in origin.

Any problem may involve all three categories. For example a physiological problem may produce some psychological effects and these may result in some social maladjustment. Physiological problems of a specifically sexual nature are rather few. Only small minorities of people suffer from diseases of or deficient development of the genitalia. Many people however experience at some time sexual problems that are by products of other pathologies or injuries.

Fortunately a good number of physiological problems are solved through medication or surgery. Sexual disorders can be classified into four categories: 1 Sexual Desire Disorders These involve dysfunctions in sexual desires, interest or drive in which the person experiences a lack of sexual desire or an aversion to genital sexual contact. People who have little or no sexual interest or desire are said to have hypo active sexual desire disorder. Lack of sexual desire does not imply that a person is unable to achieve erection, lubricate adequately or reach orgasm. It can be caused by biological or psychological factors such as hormonal deficiencies, depression, and marital dissatisfaction and so on.

Sexual aversion disorder is the state when a person finds sex disgusting or aversive and avoids genital contact. Sexual Aversion remains poorly understood. 2 Sexual Arousal Disorders Sexual arousal is principally characterized by erection in the male and vaginal lubrication and swelling of the external genitalia in the female. Male Erectile Disorder: persistent difficulty in achieving or maintaining an erection therefore not allowing a man to engage in or complete sexual intercourse. In most cases, the failure is limited to sexual activity with partners or with some partners and not others. It can therefore be classified as situational. The incidence of erectile disorder increases with age.

Occasional problems in achieving or maintaining erection are quite common. Female Sexual Arousal Disorder: women might find persistent difficulty becoming sexually excited or sufficiently lubricated in response to sexual stimulation. Female sexual arousal disorder often accompanies other sexual disorders such as hypo active sexual desire disorder and orgasmic disorders. A woman with sexual arousal disorder can often engage in coitus. Vaginal dryness might however produce discomfort and pain.

Female sexual arousal disorder more commonly has psychological causes such as anxiety, guilt and shame or can also be due to feelings of anger and resentment towards their partners. 3 Orgasmic Disorders Men or women may encounter difficulties in achieving orgasm or may reach orgasm more rapidly than they would like it. Women are more likely to encounter difficulties reaching orgasm; men are more likely to experience overly rapid orgasms. Premature ejaculation is one of the most common sexual disorders. The condition is most often described as the inability to delay ejaculation to a point when it is mutually desirable for both partners. Premature ejaculation was once thought to be caused by drugs or certain infections such as urethritis, but popular wisdom suggests it is more psychological in nature. Premature ejaculation often occurs during the first experiences with sex, and in this case is most commonly attributed to anxiety.

Impotence is the failure to achieve an erection, a condition faced by an increasing number of men. Impotence is often curable through deep relaxation and stimulation exercises. However it is important to consult a sex therapist to determine the right treatment. Anorgasmy is a condition marked by the absence of or inability to achieve orgasm. The condition may result from a variety of organic and or psychological causes. Normally anorgasmy is treated by helping the woman undo her inhibitions i.

e. most treatment is psychological. 4 Sexual Pain Disorders Both men and women may also suffer pain problems: priapism is a condition in which a man develops a permanent erection. All of the causes of this condition are not yet known, however some potential contributors are diseases, which thicken the blood and certain medications, used improperly for achieving an erection. Priapism is an uncomfortable, sometimes painful condition, which often requires surgery to relieve.

Vaginismus is a powerful spasm of the pelvic musculature contracting the vagina so that penetration is painful or impossible. It seems wholly due to anti-sexual conditioning or psychological trauma and serves as an unconscious defence against coitus. This could happen as a result of any previous sexual trauma or guilt associations with sex. It is treated by psychotherapy and physical exercises. Dyspareunia, painful coitus, is generally psychological rather than physical.

It is when the woman experiences great pain during intercourse and feels therefore unable to have sex. In women causes of dyspareunia may include a variety of fears, anxieties and previous traumatic experiences which have lead to sexual inhibition. Sexual disorders which may disrupt normal sexual activity in the middle and latter part of life need prompt diagnosis and treatment. Disorders can cause such distress that is a matter of concern that patients often feel they cannot talk to their doctors about such matters. Treatments are divided into two main kinds: behavioural psychotherapy and physical. For example, diabetes, hardening of the arteries, radical prostatectomy and other surgical procedures within the pelvis, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, high blood pressure, sedatives, and drugs for high blood pressure, antidepressants, anti-psychogenic drugs, alcohol and other ingested drugs all are possible causes of sexual impotence.

Therefore, it is important to be able to know the exact cause of the problem for proper treatment. A trained professional should make the diagnosis. If the impotence is caused by psychological factors, psychiatric treatment is delivered. If the impotence is due to physical causes with the exception of hormonal treatments and direct blood vessel surgery all possible methods of treatment are explained to the patient, and he is allowed to choose the method her prefers. Among the oral medications the most famous is Viagra that has been in the market for some time now. This drug prolongs erection by increasing the level of c-GMP, a substance in the penis that regulates erections.

According to recent clinical studies, 40 %- 80 % of Viagra recipients have benefited from Viagra, making it the number one choice by patients as a preliminary cure. Because it is convenient to use (taken orally 1 hour before intercourse), Viagra is likely to be used increasingly by the public. Unfortunately, however, people suffering from heart diseases are prohibited from the use of Viagra, and a doctor's verification of such eligibility is required in its use. Unauthorized use of the drug without proper diagnosis and a prescription can be very dangerous and should be avoided at all cost. However, with proper supervision and care, Viagra can be a very safe and effective measure against impotence. The most common method of treatment for impotence are agonist injections that have few side effects due to localized application directly in the penis and they can be used regardless of the cause of impotence.

If erection occurs after injection, there are no bodily side effects. Finally, the advantages of agonist injections are its ability to preserve the constitution of the penis and the induced erection's similarity to a natural one. Insertion surgery is an alternative that can be considered for those who do not have much success with the above technique or find it inconvenient to practice. However, since this surgery precludes further impotence treatments, the patient is advised to weigh the possible outcomes and complications before making a decision.

In most cases after surgery, the erect penis is smaller than its natural counterpart. And, if complications, such as inflammation occur, the penile insertion device will have to be removed. The patient satisfaction rate is 90 % and is the highest among all available techniques. Depending on the patient's selection, the penile insertion can be one of three types: bending type, inflatable, and automatic inflatable types.

Blood vessel reconstructive surgery corrects impotence caused by insufficient blood being supplied to the penis, because the relevant artery is blocked or the outgoing vein is deformed and subject to leakage. Every problem has various solutions; treatments also differ per person. The sexologist, the urologist and the gynecologist determine the treatment based on the problems. Physical causes are treated with medicines or other means, and sometimes with psychological treatments.

Psychological causes are managed by means of psychological treatments and in cases of problems in relational terms, relation therapy is often suggested. The both partners are usually involved in the treatment of sexual problems; mutual responsibility is needed. The complexity of sexual disorders makes the treatment difficult. Some disorders are difficult to treat while others easily respond to therapy.

There has been progress made in the clinical and scientific research, but still additional research is needed to assess the treatment efficiency and to establish treatment guidelines. Sources web web web web web web
