Invading Iraq Was Necessary Throughout time, mankind has experienced a lot of bloody conflicts among various nations and cultures. Be it of racial, religious or cultural differences or a number of many other things, war has almost always become the solution of severe arguments. When looking back at the distant past, it seems that war is unavoidable whenever two or more competing parties cannot agree with each other over a common solution. Thus, the question at hand is whether or not war can actually be the answer. The current conflict that is still taking place between the United States and Iraq is worth discussing. This is because people believe that if a peaceful solution is not agreed upon, our two countries, and maybe others may engage in a war.
Now, one has to analyze and then weigh the costs and the benefits that the United States has endured and would possibly endure in future due to this war with Iraq. One should think if it really was necessary for us to enter a full-scale war against this country. On September 11, 2002, the United States became victim to a rude and cruel Al-Qaeda's terrorist attack. This attack caused the loss of 3000 men, women, and children. Do we have to expect for another accident? Only time can tell us what Saddam Hussein actually planed on doing with his horrible production of nuclear weapons.
Former president Clinton just noticed it well, Hussein has the weapons, and he will use them. With Hussein's rapidly growing rage towards the United States, the weapons which he possessed at that moment were becoming a true menace to the American nation. As president George Bush vividly stated, A pre-emptive attack on Iraq will allow special weapons investigations to be pursued on Iraq territory, which in turn will prevent Saddam Hussein from bringing another World Trade Centre event to America. However, Hussein not only had revenge from the Gulf War on his mind. Investigations showed that Hussein's plans also included the invading of the Middle Eastern countries, in turn, gaining possession on the worlds largest oil reserves.
In fact, these reserves account for approximately 45 % of all oil imported to America. This can lead to a position of nuclear blackmail for North America, explained vice president Cheney. To further the assumptions of the United Nations and president Bush, Iraq was constantly looking for ways to get around the conditions agreed upon by Iraq and the U. N.
after the Gulf War by placing weapons in areas such as Provincial Palaces, hospitals, and schools. President Bush emphasized, Iraq has found its way around the regulations of the U. N. Gulf War Treaty. These conditions must be re-written to prevent this. Iraq, known for its hostility, had to be prevented from possibly causing acts of terrorism, taking control of oil reserves in the Middle East, and getting away with it because he worked around the post Gulf War conditions.
Since the W. T. C. buildings came down in 2001, the United States has put a tremendous amount of money into protecting themselves from being the target from another terrorist attack. Recently, information has shown that Saddam Hussein was threatening the United States and other nations around the globe by producing nuclear and biochemical weapons. At that time, Hussein actually had 350, 000 combat troops, 2, 700 tanks, 90 fighter jets, 100 helicopters, an unknown number of biochemical weapons, and a possible 3 nuclear warheads, which exceeds the limit given to Iraq after the Gulf War.
If Hussein wanted to, he could flatten New York City. With this idea at mind, it was clearly understood why something had to be done to prevent him from doing so. Saddam has nuclear weapons. And if he doesnt have them yet, hell have them in a few weeks, reported former atomic researcher from Iraq.
Even though Iraq has never been known to go through with a direct attack on North America in the past, Hussein's weapon production factories have been closely connected with members of Al-Qeada, the group responsible for the W. T. C. terrorist attack. Hussein had been trafficking weapons to terrorist organizations for years. However, lack of proof has not allowed the prevention of this.
If Hussein produced a nuclear warhead, it would be on the black market, and untrained by the United States. The risk involved with allowing Hussein to produce nuclear weapons was too high, and as Bush stated, With or without the support of the U. N. , the United States will not allow Hussein to put innocent people at risk. A pre-emptive attack on Iraq will not only secure Americans, but prevent the collapse of the Middle East from Hussein's actions. Special reports told American citizens that Hussein had made plans to take over the oil reserves in the Middle East. These reserves account for approximately 45 % of the oil imported in America.
The United States had become dependent upon these resources, and if Hussein ever had control of them, the nation would collapse, and thus, Hussein would have control not only over the American economy, but their energy resources. Nuclear blackmail was a term loosely used then. Nuclear blackmail was forcing another nation to surrender due to the attacking countries large amount of power, usually due to the possession of nuclear arms. President Cheney explained that once Hussein had control of the Middle East through the uses of nuclear blackmail, he would then be able to do the same to the United States. If the United States was ever to surrender to the enemy, not only would it destroy the country, but the moral and national pride of the people as well.
The U. N. had to agree with President Bush and his demand to go to war on Iraq. If this did not happen, once Iraq had possessions of nuclear warheads, the Middle East would obviously fall in power to Hussein, leading to the loss of millions of innocent lives. There were many debates and doubts over the war on Iraq.
In the case of going to war with Iraq, Americans could lose many of their sons fighting against terror. It was argued that if sending troops into Iraq, we would have a high number of casualties as compared to the number of casualties that we would not have if not sending our people. If it appeared to be true about Iraq possessing weapons of mass destruction, which was plainly obvious, we had to consider whether or not that they would decide to use them to kill a large amount of people. This had to be figured out in order to make a decision of whether or not to go to war.
It is a matter of fact that Saddam Hussein has used chemical weapons on his own people. Thus, there was little doubt that he would not use them against his enemies. After the Gulf War, the U. N.
forced Iraq to signing a treaty of conditions in which Iraq was not able to produce chemical and nuclear weapons. Hussein's production of nuclear weapons concerned the U. N. greatly, and they believed that precautions had to be done. Going to war was not considered just fighting because of assumptions of Hussein's military plans, but because Hussein had broken the U. N.
Gulf War agreement conditions. In the past, Hussein had also denied access to U. N. Inspectors to public areas, including hospitals and schools, areas in which all contained biochemical weapon research. Thus, Hussein's denial to giving access to the U. N.
weapons inspectors only raised the suspicion of the U. N. Hussein's actions were causing the world to come to the assumption that he was really hiding weapons within these public buildings, removing the feeling of safety and security from our everyday lives. People did not want to lose their families and relatives, and wanted to stop Hussein as soon as possible. Above all, the main problem that the U. S.
had with Iraq was that it possessed weapons of mass destruction. The U. S. government was concerned that they were more than willing to use them if they did not get what they wanted. However, the war on Iraq has not brought a desired solution. Nuclear weapons have not been found yet.
As long as Iraq has these weapons, all of our lives are still at risk. A pre-emptive attack has, of course, reassured safety and peace amongst the people around the world. Going to war with Iraq has given us a chance of living through tomorrow. This war managed to prevent possible terrorist attacks, like that on the W. T.
C. buildings in September. It seems that invading Iraq has also removed illegal weapon trafficking from Iraq to large terrorist groups such as Al-Qaeda, the terrorist group responsible for the September 11 th attack. In conclusion, as President Bush explained, war today on Iraq reassures our safety tomorrow. And thus, supporting President Bush's decision has already saved millions of lives.
