Teaching Art. "It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge. " (1) This is a very true statement, because to be a good teacher you need to have the children interested in the process you are teaching them. The most important thing to remember is that you should only pursue a teaching career if you really want to, not because it's convenient or there are openings. If you can keep a class interested in what you " re teaching, handle the different learning styles of 30 kids and help the lonely kid in the last row connect with somebody who " ll be his friend, then you might just make a difference in many young lives. We live in a changing world and it is changing with more and more advantages for the young child. He shouldnt be the person who bosses the child around, he is a person who provides guidelines for the childs harmonized development. (2) In order to become a teacher you have to be psychologist, first of all. You have to understand the needs and interests of every single child, to see if they have any problems at home (because the best expression of the childs problems is in their art: through the use of shapes and most of all the colors), if they need any help or counseling. The Art teacher is one of the most important teachers, because only in his class a child can open up his artistic abilities, and only in his class you can see if the child needs any help.
In a more practical sense the art teacher helps children to draw what they see around them. With the guiding from the teachers: some questions to emphasize some aspects like the texture and the size of the objects, different relationships within the model that the children have to draw. In art it is encouraged that the children use the five senses: the touch, smell, sound, taste, sight. When the use of these senses is all integrated, than the picture will really become realistic and alive. It is very important the teacher doesnt suppress the creativity of children. Dr.
Montessori's aim for each individual is to let the individual be free. In doing so the child will open up more and have a much greater progress in development and in education. I think a classroom must be a happy place children learning things that interest them. They should be able to talk and help each other freely. If the child can choose their own work and to work on it as long as they wish, it is only the child who will know when he has to finish, not when the adult tells him or gives him a time limit. Children should work together, they should not have to sit at their desk and be told when to move. From my experience, children work together well, it gives them the pleasure to show another child their work.
I think children learn more easily from one another than from an adult because they seem to have a very good communicative way. (2) For a teacher it is very important to carry a positive attitude. There is no way that you can come into a classroom being dull or in a bad temper. The children are there for you to help them, not for you to put out all of your bad humor on them. To be able to teach different levels in school: kindergarten, middle and high school you need to have a great variety of techniques that you can use in order to create an effective classroom environment. It is also important to be a great problem solver, because in a classroom with 20 individuals you will definitely face some problems.
In order to be able to be a teacher you have to have excellent speaking and communication skills. You have to be able to convey your ideas in such a manner that all of the children in the class will understand you. (2) In order to become a good teacher you can never stop. (3) Every single you have to work on yourself, just like the children. If you stop your process of education for at least one day, the children will lose interest in the class you are teaching, very quickly. Teaching is a life-long ship cruise, and if you have started it, there is no getting off the boat. There is no heading back, there is just more and more routes for developing and becoming and even better professional.
You will know that you are a good teacher, once your ex-student will come to you in a couple of years after graduation, and will tell you that they still remember you, and that your classes have really helped them in their life. You just have to feel the children. S. : Not to take any more of your time, because I know that you have to run to your class. What do you think is the biggest rewards, that a teacher can get? K. P. : I believe that a teacher shapes the childs understanding of the world. Thus, the biggest reward in my opinion is the knowledge of the fact that you are a good teacher.
You will know that you are a good teacher, once your ex-student will come to you in a couple of years after graduation, and will tell you that they still remember you, and that your classes have really helped them in their life.
