The 2004 Elections The 2004 elections marked the victory and re-election of George W. Bush as the President of the United States (CNN. com's 2004 election coverage). These elections are considered the victory for the Republicans, as George W.
Bush, the Republican Party candidate and incumbent President defeated John Kerry, Democratic Party candidate, then-the junior U. S. Senator from Massachusetts (Was the 2004 Election Stolen? ). While examining the 2004 U. S. elections, it becomes obvious that the victory of the Republicans is explained by a combination of effective campaigns, good candidates and other factors that led to the Republican Party success.
The major factors that led to Republicans victory were effective campaign, thorough choice of an area where the philosophy of the electorate coincided with the Republicans platform and their candidates, and good choice of candidates. Also, the Republicans placed high emphasis on foreign policy issues that became the most important theme throughout the election campaign (especially the 2003 invasion of Iraq, and Bush's policy and tactics on the War on Terrorism). The candidates emphasized on so-called feel good issues, competence, leadership and values. George Bush's campaign focused on the presidents religious beliefs, his attempts to get more faith-based institutions, to provide public services and to develop better policies to eliminate poverty and racism, and to develop more effective health care policies. In such a way, the presidential elections of 2004 also became the victory of Republicans, as George Bush defeated John Kerry. The victory is mostly explained by a good combination of candidates and effective campaigns, and emphasis on foreign policy.
