A huge cause for this is that Windows current Operating system, Windows Vista, is not performing as well as was originally hoped. There are complains from all over the computing world that Vista has been a disappointment. Although it came with a bold new look and more integrated features, it also missed some key requirements for universal operating systems. Expectations are that Windows 7 has taken care of these problems. Windows Vista is a resource hungry operating system.
With its many added features and processes, it requires at least 800 MHz processing speed, a RAM of at least 512 MB, and at least 20 GB hard disk space. Nowadays, these requirements are easily met by the new computers, but when Vista came into the market in 2005, there were some grave concerns about this. But even now, even with the new machines, Vista shows a marked delay in processing speeds. This is especially visible when booting up the computer. Windows XP used to boot up much faster than Vista. Another major concern with Windows Vista is its discrimination.
There are many window platform software that are not compatible with Vista. Vista simply rejects these programs. This has led to a lot of frustrations with PC users, who now have to contend with a limited number of options on which programs to load their computers with. And although part of this discrimination is an attempt at increasing the security levels, the general feeling is that more has been lost than gained by such discriminatory features.
All in all, although Vista does have some features that were not in XP or earlier versions of Windows, most people would rather do with just the older operating systems. This is a negative attitude towards what was supposed to be an improvement on computing. It is because of this that Windows 7 is eagerly looked towards. The hope is that it will combine the best features of Vista with the simplicity of earlier XP systems.
