University: Lecturer: Course: Date: Reformation on modern life During the industrial revolution, many social-cultural changes occurred. The society was in a constant state of change. The artists living then strived to keep up with those changes, and by doing so, several new forms of art evolved. In the second half of the 18 th century, the most popular art form was Neo-classicism, which basically was an imitation of the ancient Greek and Roman styles of art.
This art form gave way in the early 19 th century to Romanticism- characterized by very subjective and emotional depictions. Such art forms would appear dreamlike to the beholder. The few artists who didnt practice Romanticism went the exact opposite way by practicing Realism, where all art forms would try to depict reality as closely as possible. A few other artists would show their dissatisfaction with Victorian materialism and Neo-classicism by painting quasi-religious forms.
This form of art was called Pre-Raphaelite. And finally, towards the end of the 19 th century, various artists including Edgar Degas, Picasso and Renoir brought on a new form of art called Impressionism, in which a single instance of life would be depicted in a complete work of art (Industrial, 2003). Several movements occurred during the 19 th century that impacted on the social, economic and political conditions, especially in Europe. Most of the industrial revolutions impacts were based on the fundamental change from home and hand craft towards machinery and electricity use.
A huge influx of people into the urban centers was observed as more and more factories opened up there. Accommodation within town became a problem as people began to overcrowd the rooms already in existence. Due to this, low quality houses were hastily built up to cater for the increasing population. In these houses, hygiene was always a problem.
And as demand for labor increased, some factories began to employ even young children. It took a long time for a law to be enacted that prevented child labor (Nettlesworth, N. D. ). As the industrial boom continued, more people moved away from agricultural-based livelihood to industrial-based.
By then, there were no laws governing the conduct of business, and people worked according to their personal capabilities. Due to this, capitalism was quickly born, and it flourished quickly. People began to relentlessly pursue money. In the process, they paid a significant fine- the basic family units broke down.
Parents working upwards of 18 hours per day simply didnt have time for their families. But as time progressed, the hard work of all workers bore fruit- life in the late 19 th century was much improved due to the industrial revolution (Industrial, 2003).
