Running head: Business plan Name: University: Lecturer: Date: Business plan for drive thru convenience store Executive summary (Gerald et al, 2007): Highway 110 is a 50 mile-long dual-carriage-way that connects two major towns. These towns are growing by the day, as an influx of immigrants and students continue to pour in daily from other towns. This is because the towns have recently, and independently, started on an innovative plan to become business process outsourcing (BPO) hubs. Two major colleges have also started in one of the towns to train both students and other civilians about the BPOs. Consequently, Highway 110 is experiencing heavy traffic. Thousands of commuters pass through it on a daily base.

Incredibly, there is no fully functioning convenience store along the road. Raeburns Convenience Stores are a joint venture between two entrepreneurs, who over the years have established such stores in other premises. The stores specialize in all sorts of short-term consumables: fast foods, grocery, sanitation pads and so on. On Highway 110, the idea is to establish a Drive-Thru convenience store with the drivers along the Highway in mind. As such, it will be constructed in such a way that the drivers can pull in with their vehicles, order whatever they want, and get served while still in their vehicles. There will be specialized items on sale in this particular store: maps, car accessories and lubricants, and so on.

This paper outlines the main expenses foreseeable for starting such a business. It also notes the main driving goals of the company. The aim is to have a way of determining the feasibility of the convenience store along the highway, and the financial margins that can realistically be expected from such an endeavor (Bplans, 2009). Goals for the Convenience Store: Short term goals: To tap into the potential customer base along Highway 110. To offer convenience to the commuters through superior products and services. Long term goal To be a consumer trend setter along the highway and the developing adjacent towns.

To be a key player in the development of all areas adjacent to Highway 110 Personnel In order to successfully get the Drive-thru up and running, a few positions need to be filled as a minimum requirement. Firstly, an overall manager, who will double up as a director along the highway. His work will be to oversee all operations and ensure that the companys performance targets are met within specified time frames. There will be a single secretary who will also work as a data analyst. Every transaction within the store will have to be reported to the secretary. Then there will be five sales personnel.

Their work will be to provide personalized attention to every driver pulling in. And finally, two security guards, working around the clock in shifts, will be posted at the main drive-in to the store. Steps in carrying out the plan Rent out a suitable building along the highway. Several buildings are currently under survey in this respect.

Get the legal work done: insurance, state permits and so on. Draw up work descriptions, schedules and agreements for all the personnel needed within the store. Move in the assets and products needed within the store from the companys central store in one of the adjacent towns. Open business amid wide advertising both locally and in the media. Budget Startup procedural requirements Legal $ 8, 000 Insurance $ 8, 000 Rent $ 1, 200 State permits $ 2, 500 Drive-thru setup $ 55, 000 Adverts and promotions $ 7, 500 Transport of products to site $ 10, 000 Other start up expenses First month salaries $ 24, 000 Total $ 116, 200 Start up assets Liquid cash $ 100, 000 Short term assets (Products) $ 250, 000 Mid term assets (Shares) $ 157, 400 Long term assets (Structures) $ 80, 000 Total $ 587, 400 Signs of accomplished goals Identification of a suitable building along Highway 110 to house the convenience store.

Successful application and possession of the legal documents, insurance statements and state permits. Successful recruitment of new personnel, based on their merits: experience, unique perspectives, and ability to work under unsupervised conditions. Moving all the products needed within the new store from the town, together with all relevant structures needed e. g.

stalls, benches, fridges for the fast foods etc. Grand opening of the business, with fanfare to attract as much public attention as possible. Time line for the plans The identification, negotiation, agreements and finally acquiring a building along Highway 110 should take a maximum of 10 business days (2 weeks). Two days after a building has been successfully identified, it should have an insurance cover. The legal and state documents should also be processed by then.

Recruitment process for the personnel should take place during the three business days immediately after all legal and state documents have been processed. The top manager will be from one of the other Raeburns stores in town. Security guards will be supplied by the local Security Firm. The rest of the personnel will be new recruits from the public. Transport and setting up of the products and structures is expected to take up five business days at most, using hired transporters. The business should be open and running immediately after everything has been set up.

The first two days will be devoted to creating public awareness. Some goods will be sold at significant discounts during these two days. Normal business will then start after the two days of special discounts. Total timeframe to normal business hence is 30 days in total, or 22 business days.
