According to The United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, "All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood (Gewirth, 15). Indeed, human rights are very important.
They are fundamental by nature, as human rights are the integral part for any person in his (or her) relations with the government and society. It is a common knowledge that there are some specific rights that should belong to every human being irrespectively of his social status. Human rights create a positive image of peace and justice. They allow people to unite in their struggle for truth, justice, peace and common good. Human rights provide people with the guarantee of equality and justice. They change the world and make it a better place to live in.
The protection of human rights is one of the most important tasks for any democratic government, because freedom, democracy, and human rights comprise the integral whole. This is the reason why it is very important to understand what specific rights should belong to every human being, because the development of democracy, freedom, and protection of human rights are the cornerstones of foreign and home policies of any democratic super power. Human rights such as, freedom of religion, freedom of speech, and the right to life are three specific rights that every person should have, regardless of his or her race, religion, gender, ethnic background, or nationality. The religious freedom is one of the most important rights that should belong to any human being. It is a common knowledge that religion and religious beliefs played an important role in political life of the United States.
Religion forms the basis of many political and social movements in the American history. The major principles that were defined by the Founding Fathers as the basis for regulation of the relationships between the religion and policy are clearly stated in the VII Article of the U. S. Constitution, and in the 1 st Amendment (Howard, 21).
Nowadays America became the country with over 3, 000 religious groups, and every citizen understands that religion does play a crucial role. Indeed, the U. S. nation is guided by democratic principles, and these principles should be adhered to by everybody, if the country wants to preserve the American ideals of freedom. Every person should have right for religious freedom, as this right is inherent by nature. These words were proclaimed by James Madison in 1785, and remain up to date.
Religious freedom means that every citizen has the right to believe in any religion. Religious freedom means that every citizen has the right to practice any religion he (or she) wants. This right implies not the desire to spread a specific religion, but rather a conviction that every person, simply due to the fact of his existence on the Earth has his own inherent and alienable right to search for his own religious truth and to believe in religion he wants. This right cannot be granted by the government, because it has already existed before the government and society has emerged. Therefore, freedom of religion is important for human being because it implies protection of the things important to all citizens, such as personal immunity, and the immunity in all fundamental issues of human existence. Freedom of speech is also one of the most important rights that should belong to every human being.
Similar to religious freedom, freedom of speech and conscience is important for existence of democratic society. The progress of the modern society heavily depends on ability to obtain and share information and ideas. Every person should recognize the importance of the freedom of speech, because the ideological pluralism (for example, the diversity of political, economical, moral, and other ideas and values) helps to implement democratic principles in the modern life. The freedom of speech and thought belongs to the essential factors of human individuality, the diversity and unique nature of every human being. The freedom of speech consists of several elements that are interrelated.
Every person has the inherent right and freedom to express his thoughts, ideas, and convictions in public. The person should have right to spread this information in a legal way. Freedom of press and other mass media related to the freedom from censorship should also be taken into account. The person should have right to create and use mass media sources that allow materializing the freedom and inherent human right to express opinions freely.
Finally, the person should have the right to obtain information of public interest or the information that relates to the civil rights, as well as the freedom of access to the sources of information. Therefore, freedom of speech is important for human being because it is the major precondition of democratically tolerant society. Finally, the last but not the least important right that should belong to every human being is right to life the conviction that a person has an essential right to live, and has right not to be killed by another human being. Under the United States Declaration of Independence (1776) life is declared to be one of the unalienable rights.
Obviously, this right is so important that one can hardly believe this right gives birth to heated debates. Indeed, every human being has an inborn right to life. This right is protected by the law, and no person can be deprived of life with no reason. Right to life is the supreme right that cannot be underestimated even under the conditions of the state of emergency. The concept of right to life relates to the issues of euthanasia, capital punishment (death penalty), war, and self-defense.
Yet, the reality is that right to life and right of the human being not to be deprived of life arbitrary and unfounded is often violated. For example, the international pact on civil and political rights imposes no obligation on the countries-participants concerning the reversal of a death penalty, but limits the cases when the death penalty is applicable exceptionally in relation to people, who committed the most severe crimes in compliance with the national laws and standards of the international law. For example, pregnant women and adolescents cannot be punished by death penalty. The deprivation of life of the members of specific (ethical, etc) group is a genocide that is also banned by the international law. Therefore, right to life is important for human being because no person can be deprived of life with no reason Human rights remain an abstract conception until the society starts to acknowledge its importance. Human rights are fundamental by nature.
The right to practice any religion the person wants is important because it leads to a stable and lasting Union. Freedom of speech provides the guarantee that people live in a democratic society. Right to life is important because it is impossible to live in a country without defending the right to life. Therefore, all these specific rights are very important, because they provide people with the guarantee of justice and equality, and assure that all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.
