Investigating a Web site The site I have chosen is web a Roman Catholic site. I chose it because e of the multitude of languages used on its various pages as it seeks to get its message across to as many people as possible. In an earlier age it would of course have used only one- Latin, the universal language of the Roman Catholic Church until fairly recently. Although obviously Catholic, and containing links to the Vatican's official site, it also says that the holders of the copyright, Christus Rex Incorporated and Michael Olteanu, MS should not be construed as being endorsed by or as being representative of the official position of the Holy See or any agency thereof, which seems at first rather an over cautious statement for a site that is concerned with such things as the Lords Prayer and papal encyclicals and even the opening times of the Vatican Museum.
The languages used are mainly English and Latin though the Lords prayer is available in 1438 languages, which includes several quite minor dialects spoken by only a few hundred people. Also some pages are in English and Italian e. g. some of the historical pages such as those concerned with the Crusades. This use of many tongues gives an idea of the universality of this site, which came into being in 1994.
The subjects covered are varied e. g the Catholic liturgy, the catechism in various European languages and articles about American and Israeli war crimes. There are links to sites dealing with major moral issues such as euthanasia and Dresden in the Second World War. The recurring theme on this web site is morality as seen from a Catholic point of view, which despite the disclaimers, is very close to that held in general by the hierarchy of Roman Catholicism.
The writers want to hold on to their position as spokespeople for Catholicism, but as this is an unofficial site, at the same time, they maintain their independence. Electronic Source Christus Rex Incorporated and Olteanu, M. , Christus Rex found at web and accessed 30 th July 2007.
