... grip of left-wing wackos. There is no doubt that special education programs involve many ethical issues, however, they are not as dramatic as we often are made to believe. The most important of them is different treatment of children at school, which is based on their genetic inadequateness. The watchdogs of political correctness are trying to downplay the fact that mental retardation, along with inbred physical deformities, is 99 % genetically predetermined. In fact, they do their best, in order to avoid calling things for what they really are.

Somehow, they want us to believe that children that are affected by mental retardation, for example, are capable of growing into productive members of society, just as their healthy counterparts. This is of course, is nothing but the example of wishful thinking at its worst. Liberals are intentionally trying to confuse parental love to disabled child with society's institutionalized attitude. In his article Political Correctness: The Scourge of Our Times Agustin Blazquez makes a perfectly good point when he says: We see shameful situations created in our schools and universities in America that have fallen prey to Political Correctness. Some professors, students and publications are being attacked for expressing a point of view that differs from that imposed by a fanatical far left, under the guise of Political Correctness (Blazquez). This is why; many people begin to look for ethical abuses in places where there are none.

For example, every school that has a program of special education often gets to be attacked by hysterical promoters of equality, who suggest that the rights of disabled children are being violated. It does not occur to them that if there is anybody to blame for the suffering of handicapped students, it would be the parents of these students, because they did not bother to check with doctors whether their carry a defective genes, which could be passed to their children. The mere fact that different educational standards are being applied to handicapped and healthy children makes Liberals mad, because this practice does not correspond to their utopia vision of multicultural paradise, where everybody are equal. This is why they seriously suggest that it healthy kids that need to adapt to studying with handicapped students, instead of doing it other way around. When such absurd suggestion is met with a resistance, on the part of teachers who had not completely lost their ability to think in terms of logic, the self-appointed guardians of public morality become furious.

Thus, it leads to a situation when teachers and students have to deal with artificially created ethical issue. In our school, handicapped students are provided with all the necessary means, which allow them to study. As it has been mentioned earlier, they are also encouraged to spend time with ordinary children; however, it does not mean that schools general educational standards are being undermined, because of this. Moreover, if someone thinks that this is not fare, he is welcome to send his complaints to creator, because it is not a school that establishes an intellectual inequality among students, but the objective reality. Many modern teachers suggest that, in schools where there is a large percentage of handicapped children; students should not be encouraged to express their opinions about what is justice, what is beauty, what is man, what is right and what is wrong. Such questions might result in getting controversial answers, but this is exactly what liberal education is all about the greater truth comes out of argument.

While suggesting that mentally and physically challenged students should not participate in discussion of such topics, civil rights promoters deprive handicapped of their right to remain intellectually active, despite the fact that they never get tired of repeating that everybody are equal. Another ethical issue, related to special education programs, involves gifted students. It does not take a genius to realize that in our school, they consist almost exclusively of White children. According to various surveys, the same situation can be seen in other schools. This, of course, gives a valid reason to educational experts to suggest that it is nothing but reflection of instuitionalized racism. They suggest that it is not the childrens high IQ, which should only be a qualifying factor, when it comes to assembling the groups of gifted students, but their racial affiliation and the social status of their parents.

According to them, a minority child should automatically be included in the group of gifted students, especially if childs parents are newly arrived immigrants from Third World country. Let us quote from Blazquez article one more time, to illustrate the legitimacy of peoples opposition to such practice: In schools and workplaces we see that "diversity" has degenerated into reverse discrimination, where often the less qualified are admitted and the incompetent cannot be fired (Blazquez). It comes as a no surprise why, according to Gallup surveys, it is possible to obtain bachelors degree, without taking history course in 30 % of American colleges. In 38 % of all colleges, it is not necessary to study English literature, in order to get a degree. Students are encouraged to spend more and more time to think how to make world better, instead of studying.

Mike Roses book Lives on the Boundary stands as a fine example of this modern academic approach: A failed education is social more then intellectual in origin, he states and tries to convince us in it by giving numerous examples of what, in his opinion, would prove his point. As a conclusion, he proposes to give more chances to those students who simply cannot keep up with an educational process, by making it easier for them to study, thus, introducing more equality. He stresses out that obtaining education can only be effective if the process itself is entertaining. For that purpose, Rose suggests that reading classics of English literature by students is not necessary, because these books are too boring. We can say that Roses idea of colleges and schools closely resembles the idea of kindergarten. Can this approach be beneficial?

There are many good reasons to doubt this, but what we cannot doubt, is Roses right to be able to express freely his thoughts on the subject which is something that he denies to his opponents. Thus, it appears that the majority of ethical challenges, related to the issue of special education, derive out of peoples over sensitiveness. Teachers understanding of morality has been twisted to such a degree that many of them simply miss the point that the purpose of education is to endow children with actual knowledge, rather then encouraging them to think that they are automatically entitled to receive a high school diploma, without having to pass through exams, because of the color of their skin, or because they are handicapped. Evaluating the components of special education program There are a few components in special education program that need to be evaluated, in order for us to conclude whether it effective or not, as whole.

First, we need to answer the question whether special education program increases students learning proficiency. This can be done quite easily, by comparing schools dropout statistics, before and after the introduction of special education program, aimed at certain category of children. In our school, the current dropout rate clearly indicate the effectiveness of our present educational strategy, because it is significantly lower than what it used to be, before we began separating children in the groups, where the realization of their intellectual capabilities would not be disturbed by outside factors. Over the course of few years, since the special education program was introduced in our school, mentally challenged students have significantly improved their academic and social skills, because their natural learning inclinations were being allowed to take its normal course.

There was only one case of mentally impaired student dropping out of school, because of complications with his physical health. Even though special needs students, in our school, are included in schools overall educational plan, teachers who work with them have their own objectives. This creates an atmosphere of tolerance in the school, because children understand that schools segregation al policies are meant to help them in achieving their educational goals. The teaching of math in handicapped classes only continues for one year. At the same time, we encourage mentally impaired children to learn crafts. This prevents them from growing to consider themselves as being inferior, because, in many cases, their craftsmanship skills would allow them to become a professional artists in the future.

This especially applies to autistic children. Therefore, we can say that the practice of studying in separate classes, for the children with different mental and physical abilities, is beneficial for them, as much as it is beneficial for the whole society. Teachers have a great ethical responsibility, when it comes to designing a special education program. This is why, it is crucial, on their part, not to succumb to emotionalism, while doing this.

It is a fact that even ordinary children have different mental capabilities; therefore, it is irresponsible to suggest that childs academic progress is defined by the aspects of his upbringing alone. Teachers task is to recognize childs learning inclinations early enough, so that he could be given a chance to develop them in meaningful way. Another important component of special education program is assessing childs behaviour, in context of educational process. Many teachers point out to the fact that anti-social behavior, on the part of student, usually correlates to his low scores. This, of course, is a valid suggestion. However, students bad behavior is often being provoked by educators, who fail to understand that children are simply too different for the conventional academic requirements to be applied to them equally.

However, this does not imply that such standards need to be lowered indiscriminately, which became a common practice in American schools, nowadays. Instead, we need to strive towards rising up the academic requirements for gifted students, while lowering them for those children who physically cannot keep up with their more intelligent counterparts. This can only be accomplished if the practice of intellectual segregation becomes socially accepted. More and more people try to send their children to private schools, because they rightfully expect that the educational policies are much more effective there.

However, only rich people can afford it, while there is only one reason why ordinary folks are often unable to provide their gifted kids with quality education the obscure notion of political correctness, which is being showed up peoples throats. The reason why the special education programs are very effective in our school is that they do not use children as objects of social-engineering experiments, which are only meant to appease Liberals. Instead of trying to invent bicycle again, as those educators who suggest that IQ tests are culturally biased and that teachers must come up with some other academic criteria, we base our educational approach on the recognition of natural inequality among people. At the same time, it does not imply racist attitudes, on our part, because in our school, all children are being equally cared for. We strongly believe that special education programs can never be based on the denial of natures laws; therefore, we do not strive to adapt the objective reality to the artificial notions of political-correctness.
