The Day of the Jackal While reading the Edgar Award winning best novel of 1972, The Day of the Jackal, a thriller novel by Frederick Forsyth that was published in 1971, I realized that this book was so good that it would be considered as a classic in the next 50 to 100 years. The storyline in the novel by the author of The Day of the Jackal is based on a professional killer who is contracted by a French terrorist group to assassinate Charles de Gaulle.
