(Synopsis) Plot The main character in the film is Helen McCarter who has everything a woman could ever want with a nice hour and a rich and successful husband. However, her husband, Charles McCarter throws her out of the house after admitting to having an affair with another woman.
Helen finds support and solace from her grandmother Mad and her cousin Brian and has for the first time in her life has to learn how to stand up by herself. When she gets ready to move on with her life with Orlando, she learns that her husband is seriously hurt, through an assault by a vengeful client. In her confusion she wonders if she has the heart to forgive him and transforms herself from being a mild and meek person into a calculatingly mad character. Helen takes care of her husband who had been paralyzed because of the assault until he recuperates and then she tell her husband that although she loved him, she could only be friends with him and hands him her signed divorce papers.
She runs out and when she is asked where she was going, Helen says "I am going to get MY MAN!" and she goes to Orlando and professes her love for him. (Jalea & Teyee, 2005) Conclusion As the script for this film was initially turned down, Tyler Perry had to pay half of the $ 5. 5 million production cost for his first movie, however, the film has already grossed in excess of ten times more then its cost. Producer Tyler Perry was at one time homeless, however the house in which the Mc Carters were shown living was in reality his own. Tyler Perry had based the character of Mad, which is an endearing form of saying mother dear on his own mother, aunts and sisters. In this film, Tyler Perry has successfully characterized the lifestyles of the Black community with a big dosage of black comedy, where pot-smoking characters are portrayed with loaded guns in their possession and humorous obscene language being used in the film. It must however, also be mentioned here that for the attainment of inner strength and to prove the healing power of faith, the producer has nicely portrayed the way individuals return back to God.
