Assignment Part I The story written by Sandra Cisneros, The House on Mango Street, describes a picture of life of Esperanza Code, a small Mexican-American girl. The author speaks about Esperanza's life and describes the girls character and traits. Lets invent a time-machine and write a continuation of the story. Time passes and Esperanza grows up and becomes a woman. Will she change a lot? When the girl was small, she wanted to become beautiful and cruel.

I dont think that she will be cruel when she will be an adult woman. Esperanza grew up in a cruel world and will never forget all bad things that happened to her. She will try to live her life to become a happy woman. Esperanza said: People who live on hills sleep so close to the stars they forget those of us who live too much on earth... One day I'll own my own house, but I won't forget who I am or where I came from (Cisneros, pp. 86 - 87). I think she will not return to the house on Mango Street but I believe that she will never forget who she is or where she came from.

She will remain an adult woman with the tender and loving heart of small Esperanza. I guess she will marry a man who will love her and will make everything for her to become happy. It will be a loving couple with several children. They will live in a large and comfortable house on a hill with a large hall and plenty of rooms. The house will be on a hill because Esperanza considered that "people who live on hills sleep so close to the stars they forget those of us who live too much on earth. They don't look down at all except to be content to live on hills.

They have nothing to do with last week's garbage or fear of rats. Night comes. Nothing wakes them but the wind" (Cisneros, pp. 86 - 87). Esperanza's greatest dream will come true and she will keep bums in the attic, instead of mice and rats that were in her old house on Mango Street. Esperanza will surely get an education. She loves to write and probably, she will become a popular writer.

She will write about her childhood and about good and bad happened to her when she was young. Esperanza will find a better life with husband who loves her, thousands of readers who like her stories, and all dreams that will come true. What will become of Nenny, Rachel and Lucy? Nenny, Esperanza's younger sister, will grow up but hardly will leave Mango Street. She is too tender and shy. Nenny is lost in her dreams and childish attitude to life.

Probably, she will find a man and will fall in love with him. She will be a good mother and a good wife, but will not make a career. Rachel and Lucy, Esperanza's friends, like adventures. Probably, their life will be full of adventures, new interesting people and events. They will live an active and happy life. Part II Mexico is a country rich in traditions.

The culture of Mexico originates from the ancient people who lived in Mexico: Toltec, Mishtec and Aztec nations. Aztec brought knowledge on medicine and astronomy. Ancient Mexicans knew how to write and left many writings. In 14 - 15 centuries Aztec built stone-made pyramids with temples and churches. The buildings were decorated by paintings, fresco, wall-paintings, to mention a few. Ancient Mexicans left also statues of different gods and goddesses striking by their grandiosity.

Stone and ceramic figures made by ancient Mexican nations are still very popular. The country is has literature, folklore, art and music traditions. Plenty of bright vivid colors combined with folklore fantastic elements are the main features of Mexican architecture and art. Music also plays an important role. Actually, it was part and parcel of Mexican religious traditions. What concerns religion, the major part of Mexicans are Catholics.

Mexico cannot be called a strictly religious country, because the Church has no much influence like Catholic religion in Italy. Religion has no political influence. The government prohibits religious propaganda in state institutions. Some Mexicans are ardent followers of ancient Mexican religious practices. We can find there ancient African-Christian cults that have elements of Catholicism.

These cults are voodoo, Santeria, candomble, mango, and many others. Education in Mexico consists of education for infants, primary and high school, vocational education and higher institutes of education. The main part of educational establishments belongs to the government. There are some private educational institutions and some institutions that belong to different religious organizations. Primary education is free and obligatory for children aged 6 - 14. Not all Mexican children get an education.

Some of them have to stop it due to various reasons. Major part of children who live in villages and small towns has to drop education because they need to work in order to support their families. Besides, education in villages differs from urban system. Children study approximately 4 - 5 years and schools often have to study in two shifts. High school lasts for five years and children have an opportunity to get a technical education (agriculture, industry, pedagogic, medicine, etc).

However, these additional courses require payment. Vocational education and higher institutes of education is also not free. Federal Ministry of Education and National Educational Committee are responsible for general system of education. The most popular university is Mexican National university created in 1551.
