The secret of how they were being brainwashed is very simple these soldiers were encouraged to repeat slogans, without even having to believe in them. For example, the slit eyed commie would tell the soldier: If you publicly say Hail Lenin! we will double your ration. Then he would encourage the same soldier to do it again, while finding another way of encouragement. Then again and again, to the point where soldier would start believing in the nonsense he was saying, without realizing it. The constant repetition is the secret of psychological brainwashing.
We can draw the parallels between this and the way the Americans are being brainwashed nowadays, by the promoters of political correctness. Actually, in my opinion, the political correctness is Momism in its modern interpretation. It is well known that it considers sexism as one of the seven deadly sins. But how does it make healthy and mentally normal males to subject themselves to hysterical and irrational women? The answer is through constant repetition of idiotic slogans. Ever since the elementary school we are being taught to say things that did not correspond to the objective reality: men and women are equal, homosexuals are just as normal as we are, racial inequality is based on prejudices etc.
After having repeated these slogans often enough, we began to believe in them, even though that they contradict to what we get to experience on daily basis. This is one of the aspects of the movie that hasnt been noticed by the critics. The reason why Manchurian Candidate cannot be considered as strictly pro or anti Communist is because movies attention is shifted into the future, when these ideologies will cease to play any important role. What will remain is the fact that the governmental authorities will always try using the methods of psychological manipulation to brainwash common people. Because the more people are being brainwashed the easier it is to take advantage of them. The ultimate brainwashing results in individual loosing its sense of identity and becoming a robot, like it happened with Raymond. (5) The Manchurian Candidate belongs to the type of movies that need to be watched twice, in order to be fully understood.
There are many symbolic references, throughout this movie, which only become apparent with time. For example, when Raymond kills one of his friends, during the trial of his loyalty in China, he chooses the soldier who used to express normal attitudes towards women. There is a scene, prior to this, where Raymond confronts this soldier in brothel, while suggesting that it is morally wrong to engage in sex with women for money. This is because he subconsciously associated all women with his mother. Apparently, Raymond could never belong to the soldiers brotherhood, because of being overly feminized. He considered a normal expression of mens sexuality as something unnatural, without realizing that it was him, who did not behave normally, given the circumstances of war.
And it was Raymond's latent femininity that made him to take revenge upon his friend, when he could not defend himself. The fact that Raymond agreed to become a spy can also be considered as highly symbolical. In every war spies are not considered to be the subjects of military law, which grants certain rights to the prisoners of war. Spies have always been executed without any trial, after being caught.
This is because spying on the country of residence has always been considered as something dirty, just as stubbing someone in the back, while hugging him. It is very alien to the concept of open combat, therefore it is considered to be something feminine. The psychologically healthy males usually feel inner aversion towards spying. That is why the half of the most famous spies, throughout the history, used to be women. Mata Hari is the most famous of them. The other half consisted of feminized men.
Kim File, for example, used to work of his manicure for a couple of hours every day. Raymond fits perfectly in this category. Despite his manly appearance, he was more of a woman, because different circumstances affected his actions in the most unpredictable ways. Also, they base their notions on emotionalism, which can only appeal to women and mentally unstable men. 3) Communism is the most dangerous of all degenerative ideologies; because it almost succeeded in turning the whole world into one workers paradise, where people would wear the same grey ropes, work for 15 hours a day, share wives and praise beloved leaders. 4) Mens gradual feminization, which started to gain momentum since the end of World War 2, is mentally destructive and should not be allowed by any spiritually healthy society. This feminization causes men to lose their sense of biological identity, while encouraging them to look for it by becoming associated with various degenerative doctrines. 5) Feminine virtues can be both beneficial and destructive, depending on the circumstances. But they most definitely should not influence the political process in any country, if people want their governments to act in the way that is needed and not in the way, which seems to be the easiest and more pleasurable. 6) Manchurian Candidate is a remarkable movie with its main motifs being directly related to the realities of nowadays. As such, it needs to be made available to as many people as possible.
