"It represents a shift to the post-business society" (Drucker 1989, p 173). Drucker says that the shift has gone furthest in the United States and Japan, but it is also in train in most of Western Europe. In the Two Countercultures chapter, Drucker sees the inevitable fall of the blue collar worker in the United States because more workers in are becoming knowledge workers. He says that "farmers have become to be a small minority" even though in this century production on the farm has grown faster in the developed non-communist countries than in any sector (Drucker 1989, p 182). He pronounce that knowledge workers are becoming the pace settlers in the societies of all developed countries.

Drucker sees the unions that traditionally have protected the labor workers becoming weaker and weaker because most workers especially in the United States are becoming to be knowledge workers. Drucker says that the labor union in the future can go in three different ways; he says that " if labor unions do nothing, it may disappear-even in a free, democratic society" (Drucker 1989, p 187). Or 'it may shrink to the point where it becomes irrelevant' (1989). Drucker says that the best approach would be for the union to try to maintain itself through dominating the political power structure and having government impose compulsory union membership and such power position for the union as ' code termination' which gives it a veto power over company management (Drucker 1989, p 187).

He also says that the "union should rethink its functions" to reinvent itself as the organ of society and of employing institution concerned with human potential and human achievement, and with optimizing the human resource altogether (Drucker 1989, p 187). It is amazing how Drucker is able to see the actual problems of our labor organization and give references on different approaches to counter those issues. In the Social Functions chapter, Drucker gave us his brilliant definition of what is management. He says that the " management task is to make people capable of joint performance, to make their strength effective and their weakness irrelevant" (Drucker 1989, p 221). He says that is what organization is all about, and it is the reason that management is the critical, determining factor. He states that because management deals with the integration of people in a common venture, it is deeply embedded in culture.

Even enterprises, Drucker says, requires commitment to common goals and shared values "with out such commitment there is no enterprise; there is only a mob" (Drucker 1989, p 221), He converse that management must also enable the enterprise and each of its members to grow and develop as needs and opportunities change. In the last chapter of the New Realities, Drucker enlighten us with his analysis of the 'Shifting Knowledge Base' (Drucker 1989, p 224). He explains us that within the next decades, education will change more than it has changes since modern school was created by the 'printed book over 300 year's ego' (1989). He says that an economy in which knowledge are becoming the true capital and the premier wealth producing resource makes new and stringent demands on the schools for educational performance and educational responsibility. "Society dominated by knowledge workers makes even newer and even more stringent demands for social performance and social responsibility" (Drucker 1989, p 224). Drucker says that the traditional disciplines of schools are becoming sterile, if not obsolescent. He gave us several suggestions to cope with this problem.

For example, Drucker thinks that there should be a serious discussion of the social purpose and responsibility of education in the new reality of the knowledge society. He also believes that the education system should be an open system. He says that it must not make into an impenetrable barrier the line between the highly schooled and the 'other half' (Drucker 1989, p 134). He also sees that education con no longer be confined to the schools; he states that " every employing institution has to become a teacher" (Drucker 1989, p 235). Drucker asserts that major changes in school and education are certain because our knowledge society will demand and new theories and learning technologies will trigger them. How fast will come we do not know, says Drucker, but he predicts with high probability that it will come first to the United States because we have the most open, flexible educational system and the least centralized and regimented one.

Therefore, this brilliant man has given us, a vast pool of ideas and knowledge for facing the challenges of our ever dynamic world. In the chapters that I just discussed, He has wonderful connected the historical perspective with our modern challenges and constrains. It looks futuristic or about the next century but in reality, the next century is already here, we do not know the answers for our challenges but we know and recognize now the issues. Drucker has helped us view the concerns of mainstream management in light of the concerns of civilization, and vice versa. Here he's driven by everyone's need to understand the worldwide changes of 1973, prodded by the "floating dollar, " the student rebellions, and the energy crisis. Casualties of that change include not merely labor unions, but the cultural distinction between workers and managers; not merely the Cold War, but the economic benefits of armaments; not merely urban renewal, but the idea that government can shape society; not merely the limits of government but what we the citizens can do, not only the benefits of a charismatic leader but also the danger of blindly following a leader.

In the Knowledge Society, clearly we realized that more and more knowledge, and especially advanced knowledge, will be acquired well past the age of formal schooling and increasingly, perhaps, through educational processes that do not center on the traditional school; But at the same time, the performance of the schools and the basic values of the schools will be of increasing concern to society as a whole, rather than being considered professional matters that can safely be left to educators. In our society where the minority of knowledge workers are starting to dominate society, there is a potential for social conflict. The productivity of the non-knowledge, services worker will become the social challenge of the knowledge society. On this, it will depend on the ability of the knowledge society to give decent incomes, jobs, and with them dignity and status, to non-knowledge workers. The reason I end with the 'knowledge' concept is because Drucker analysis and his vision is paving us the way for us, the future scholars, to think in policies that addresses the less fortune. Finally, it's in our hands and the hands of our decision makers in power to realize the realities that Drucker has presented.
