It was a dark and dreary night. The sky was full of clouds, and the ground was full of fog. There was no light to be seen for miles; especially, in the dark swampy forest. On that night, something came into the world that would change the way of life forever.

On that night, Grendel was born. His mother, a terrible and mean monster, brought Grendel into this world. Since his mother was a monster, so was Grendel; however, that does not mean that Grendel was mean also. As the years progressed, Grendel grew older; and his mother grew meaner.

Grendel was tall and scary looking. He had thin, course, brown hair all over his body. His teeth were razor sharp. When he walked, he was hunchbacked. When he talked, it was in sort of a growl tone. He had big dark eyes, almost black.

He had big feet and hands with huge claws that could cut someone terribly. To everyone, but his mother, Grendel was a scary monster. As Grendel began to reach the age of schooling, he wanted to start going to school; however, his mother forbade it. She refused to let her son be exposed to those terrible children that went to that school. Every time that Grendel would ask for school, she just laughed at him and told him that it was a stupid idea and that there were better things to do with his life.

So he obeyed her and dropped the idea of school. For the next couple of years, Grendel spent his time with his mother getting lessons on the information that she believed he needed to know. This information included hunting, trapping, killing, etc. Nevertheless, Grendel still felt incomplete.

Every once in a while, he would walk through the woods where he could see the children playing through the trees. He knew that school was where he belonged, and school was where he was going to be. So Grendel went home and told his mother that he was going to attend school whether she liked it or not. Grendel's mother was devastated. She was so angry at him that she told him to do whatever he wanted but not to come crying to her when things did not turn out like he thought.

Grendel was so happy and paid no attention to her warning. The next day, he enrolled in school and began the following day. Grendel, now age 10, got up the next morning and got ready for his very first day of school. He was so excited. He brushed his hair and teeth.

He ate his breakfast and made his lunch. Grendel grabbed all of his stuff and was off to school. In the meantime, his mother stayed in her room and refused to mutter a single word to him. So Grendel was off to school. The walk took him two whole hours, but it did not bother Grendel because he was too excited to realize how long it took. Grendel finally got to school.

He walked through the door and looked around. The school was just as he imagined it. Grendel was overfilled with excitement that he never realized that everyone was already there; class had already started. He was late for his first day.

When Grendel finally realized this, he was so embarrassed. Still, the teacher was nice and let Grendel come in and sit down. As Grendel walked down the aisle, he noticed that everyone was staring at him. Suddenly, he felt nervous and self-conscious.

Then Grendel began to hear whispering and little giggles here and there. There were also little shrieks of terror from some of the children. Grendel had no idea what was going on. Grendel's excitement was overthrown by embarrassment. Grendel wanted to go home so badly; however, he knew that if he did, his mother would laugh in his face. He hated being laughed at, so he decided to stay.

Grendel was so big that he sat in the back of the room by himself. This did not allow him to meet anyone. At recess, he would sit all alone under a tree eating his lunch. Every once in awhile, kids would come up to him and ask him mean questions that he was unable to answer. Children, while playing, would throw rocks at him and laugh. The kids there were just plain mean.

This way of life went on for Grendel for the next couple of years, until something happened. Grendel was sitting alone at lunchtime minding his own business. Then, a few boys came over and started picking on Grendel. They called him rude names and made terrible fun of him. When suddenly, something so terrible happened that Grendel would never be the same. As the boys were making fun of Grendel, Grendel kept saying, stop making fun of me!

He kept repeating it over and over. Then one of the boys went to reach at Grendel, when Grendel snapped. He swung his hand at the boy, hitting the boy with his claws. As he swung his hand, he made this terrible growling noise.

Everybody stopped in his or her tracks to see what happened. When they saw that the boy had been hit and was bleeding terribly, they ran for their life into the school locking Grendel out. Grendel could not believe what happened. He did not mean it, it just happened; however, that did not mean anything to the school when they kicked Grendel out forever. Grendel was so upset. He vowed that he would never forgive humans for what they had done to him.

After that, he began to get lessons from his mother again. Again, this included hunting, trapping, killing, etc. ; however, for Grendel, instead of hunting animals he hunted humans. Grendel completely changed. He was no longer nice and polite. It was almost as if he had joined with the Devil. Although, Grendel would once in awhile think about the great schooling he had gotten before, he enjoyed his new life; and so did his mother.

She was so proud of what he had turned out to be. Grendel would sneak into the homes of people, kill them in their sleep, and then eat them. Then one day, Grendel's mother told him that she wanted him to hunt better and higher. This meant she wanted Grendel to hunt the hall. This hall held the warriors of the land.

So, again, Grendel obeyed his mother and would hunt those warriors until there were none left. Grendel was so disappointed when there were no more warriors to feed on. Then, the day came when new warriors arrived. Moreover, another feast for Grendel would be fed upon. Night came along, and it was time for Grendel to feed.

He went to the hall and found all the sleeping warriors. Grendel grabbed his first round of food. As he went on to is next round, he was stopped. Somebody with a stronger force than Grendel had him by the paw. What was he going to do? No one had ever had more strength than Grendel.

Grendel began to feel weak. The warrior knew it, too, for he ripped off Grendel's paw. Grendel was so scared that he ran off. Grendel was crying his eyes out. What had happened to him? Grendel knew his time was running out, so he needed to run home as fast as possible to see his mother.

He made it home in time to say one last goodbye to his mother. Grendel died in his mothers arms.
