Steven V. has been psychologically treated chronically since kindergarten. He had been previously diagnosed with schizoid personality, paranoid schizophrenia and manic depressive psychosis. All of his of his psychological treatment had been suggested by his parents due to his very intense childhood. Steven V.

was the only child of a very wealthy couple. His father was a business man who was rarely home and did not seek the time to form a relationship with his son. The one emotion Steven did receive from his father was disappointment because his father felt he lacked the toughness to be successful in the world and was too timid. His mother Mrs.

V. also spent little time with her son, but she did manage to show him a little more affection and love then his father did. Steven opened up to his mother more. She portrayed her love for him through hugging and kissing and even letting him sleep in her bed with her while Mr.

V. was away on business, but this all ended when Steven was twelve. His mother awoke very alarmed to find her son masturbating next to her. Although this was a very natural act she forbid Steven to sleep with her from now on. Steven was raised mostly by a full time maid. Being alone most of the time, due to lack of parental and peer interaction, Steven kept busy by using his imagination.

When he was younger he imagined himself as super heros and acted them out in extremely violent ways. As Steven grew older he became strongly interested in pornography. He would become intensely aroused by watching woman who were sexually violated. This lead to his interest in violent horror movies, such as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, in which he frequently imagined his parents as the victims. When Steven was twenty one he began dating Linda. Linda was an active student who attended the same college as Steven.

After only a few dates Steven immediately began to obsess over Linda, but Linda did not seem to reciprocate the same feelings. This made Steven very frustrated. As the relationship progressed Steven felt very insecure. He made false accusations toward Linda and even pressured her into sleeping with him. After only a few months the relationship ended with Linda refusing to see Steven anymore due to his physical and verbal abuse. Steven very distraught by this began to seek therapy once again.

Stevens encounter with this therapist allowed him to begin to open up. While exposing his feelings his deep depression turned into intense hate and anger toward Linda. His last remarks to the therapist were, She doesnt deserve to live, and I swear I am going to kill her. If I were treating Steven V. I would begin by using the psychoanalytical approach. This approach is based on the belief that his childhood experiences influenced the later development of personality traits and psychological problems.

I feel that Steven V. s childhood was abnormal in that he did not receive an efficient amount of love and attention from his parents, instead he was rather shunned by them. When entering his relationship with Linda he was happily overwhelmed with the love and acceptance she had given to him. Such a thing he had never experienced before, especially from his own parents, that is why he immediately became obsessed.

His interest in violent pornography arose from his mother. When he was caught masturbating by her she immediately punished him by not letting him sleep next to her anymore. This lead to Steven feeling that masturbation was wrong, such as violence is, and that is how he drew the connection to the two. Also during his childhood he never really viewed his mother and father acting as a family or having a loving relationship.

I believe this is why he mistreated Linda. Steven was unsure of how to act to and around a significant other. Most children observe some type of example or display, but Steven was denied that due to his parents constant separation. He loved Linda but was never taught how to portray his affection properly.

As for Stevens last remarks, she doesnt deserve to live, and I swear I am going to kill her, referring to Linda, I would take that very seriously, although I would not contact the police. By involving the police I believe Steven would not obtain the psychiatric help he needs because it is likely a restraining order would be issued forbidding him to speak or see Linda. Also the trust between a therapist and client would be broken. I feel in order to break the cycle he needs to sought out his feelings and mixed emotions. I would contact Linda and make her aware of what was going on and ask her to meet with myself and Steven. I believe by going back into his childhood she will begin to understand him more.

By Linda understanding him will begin to release his tensions and anger toward her. After that Steven can then continuing seeing counseling until he has come to terms with himself and his childhood. I felt using the psychoanalytical approach with Steven is more efficient then the others because it is obvious that the way he was brought up influenced his life greatly. He acted certain ways because he wasnt taught better. He did certain things because of what had been done to him. Children live by what they learn.

Teach a child to hate and they will hate, teach a child to love and they will love. Steven simply stressed his unconscious fears, desires, and motivations through his behavior.
