On the ship, a man was accused of being a thief and another was mad at Edmond because he took over when the captain died instead of him. Edmond meets Mercedes on the dock after his conversation was over. After a few kisses, they strolled off.

When deVille fort asks for the letter and Edmond gives it to him without hesitation, it was obvious that he was innocent. If Edmond had known what the letter was about, he wouldnt have given it up. Next he gets some help with another man that kills his number two enemy. At this, that man is sent to jail and given a script to say while he is being prosecuted. He tells deVille fort that he is his son, the one he tried to bury alive, driving deVille fort insane.

Finally, he goes after General Mondago. He brings in his mistress who tells a story which leads Edmond (Count) to dual swords with Mondago. Edmond wins getting his full revenge on all his adversaries. The ending to the movie is when Edmond finds Mercedes again. She was married to Mondago and she will not take Edmond back.
