I have known these two characters for a little more than four years now and never once have I seen a straight face. These two are always making jokes or making fun of each other. The person in the black long sleeve sweater with a silver chain necklace over hanging his shirt is one of my best friends named Justin. The person in the white long sleeve sweater with his sleeves rolled up and his Rolex watch on his wrist is one or my best friends named James. This photograph was taken last year when Justin and I were in Construction technology at school and we had to do a project that had to do with fooling around with taking pictures.
We took pictures of everything from cups to shoelaces to people to bricks on the school wall. When the film was developed, we had noticed that all the pictures we had taken were in black and white, these were not our intensions. This photo that you are looking at stood out the most. Never before had I ever seen the two of them not smiling or even grinning. For once, they tried to look intimidating but yet in a fashionable way. My first reaction was GAP.
This looks like this picture could be in a Gap advertisement (Gap is a named brand of new style clothing). Justin looks at me in a funny was and bursts out in laughter for a good five minutes. When he stopped laughing, I exclaimed that I was serious. Just gaze into the photograph then youll be able to see the creation of Justin and James form the funny Adam Sandler into the attitude of a stressed out teacher.
If you ever had the chance to meet these two comedies acts, youll know what I mean when I compare them to Adam Sandler. When I told James and Justin that I was going to send in this picture to the Gap main offices as usual the made a joke out of it and pretended as if it was a good idea. What ever they said to anyone was extremely sarcastic all the time. When I called up the Gap head office in Toronto I spoke the head of advertisements and told him about this picture that I thought would be perfect for an advertisement for gap. The man simply said put on a slogan and send in the picture and if we like it, we will call you back.
For a couple of hours I kept on thinking of a good slogan and finally came to a conclusion of Anger meets Innocence. I sent the picture in and soon enough I got a positive rely saying that the photograph will be used as a advertisement in the next Slam magazine. The Gap head offices liked our work and felt that the photo reveals two cocky guys that arent afraid to show there aggressiveness and at the same time there young innocent eyes reveal there timid ness. In addition, all the cloths they are wearing in the picture are from the Gap. I had a feeling that the Gap offices would like our work.
When I showed Justin And James the magazine that they were in the both looked at the picture then at each other and laughed. These to are the hardest to understand; I never know what they laugh at or whom they are laughing at. Maybe it the laughter was they thought this was a joke. Now my friends were international super models. All they did was shrug off the offers of modeling and told the Gap office that the picture was a one-time deal. When James came up to me and asked me if I wanted to be in a gap advertisement, I became teary eyed and started rolling around on the ground in laughter.
It was all one big joke form the start. Acting foolish by taking out if the blue pictures of things. Our construction technology teacher at our school gave us a sixty percent for our pictures of art. The comments by the teacher were that the pictures were not detailed enough and needed to have more action and the pictures were supposed to be in color. When I see this picture on the wall in my room I just think of how funny my two buddies are.
Now that I have moved away form them it is hard to keep in contact and hard to see them. I just cherish this picture and think back when I took the picture. I realized that my buddies did have a serious side but they came up one in a blue moon. This Kodak moment shows that pictures that are just taken just for the picture dont always end up the way you intend them to exist.
