In Freud's Dora, it is apparent in the case study of Dora, oppression has quite an effect on Dora. The act of oppression is no stranger, the act of Oppression is argued in Paulo Free, The Banking Concept as well. The actions of Freud are very similar to Paulo Fieres views of the oppressive teacher. The actions of Freud coincide with the actions of the oppressive teacher. Even though Freud is not a teacher he tries to apply his beliefs to Dora, because he feels his way is the right way. He tries to make her believe things that are not necessarily her beliefs.

In a way he makes her feel confused and not to sure of what she believes. This is very similar to the beliefs of the oppressive teacher who believes that the student is only there to collect knowledge from them and not bestow their prior knowledge to anyone. Toril Moi the author of Representation of Patriarchy: Sexuality and Epistemology in Freud's Dora, agrees that Freud was an oppressor towards Dora and does not help her situation, in fact he is the first one who mentions the work he did with Dora was a failure. The case study of Dora preformed by Freud focuses on the problem of hysteria in Dora's life.

When Dora's parents found a suicide note from her they decided to send her to Freud for treatment, obviously she got a little more than she bargained for. It was clear that Dora's psychological problems are definitely related to her social background. She is not very confident and not to sure of her actions, all while being under great pressure trying to lead a normal life. Dora's Hysteria can be clearly linked to her lack of Independence which in turn leads her to live a very sheltered life. The purpose that Dora holds to her father is for sick and unusual reasons, she is clearly being used to help her father obtain his mistress, he wants to use her as a gift to his mistress husband. Dora obviously feels that her father only wants to send her to treatment because he wants her to be cured.

In other words for her to give herself up to further his sick relationship. It is obvious throughout Freud's analysis that it was leading to a failure, he would agree. The problem lies within the Oppressor, a. k. a. Freud, he is definitely not sensitive to Dora's needs as a human and more importantly a woman.

Freud being a male shows his sensitivity to the game being played by Dora's father. The failure of Freud's treatment is due to the sexist approach he takes against the whole situation and the fact that he shows no moral support to Dora. Another text that discusses the act of oppression is in Paulo Fieres, The Banking Concept of Education. The Banking concept focuses on the oppression that many teachers display when teaching children, Freire feels that the banking concept prevents students from being able to express themselves, thus preventing creativity in the modern classroom. Paulo Freires definition of the banking method is to record, memorize, and repeat. He states in his passage when learning in a banking style, it is considered a success when the student does not really understand the concept of a problem but is able to get the answer.

To me this belief is completely wrong and defeats the purpose of learning, this way of the banking concept allows a student to memorize and repeat for a short time. The banking concept in a way reminds me of the old belief of Children should be seen and not heard and the concept of Do as I say not as I do. The concepts stated in The Banking Concept of Education supporting the banking method are outdated and do not conform the 21 st century beliefs. The fact that our society is being held down by oppression when it comes to learning is sad, this will further push the lack of creativity in the future in this country. The times are changing and things are moving faster and I strongly believe the banking style of teaching needs to be updated and changed greatly to conform to the new society of the 21 st century. Furthermore, the case study of Dora was studied from a feminist point of view by Toril Moi.

Moi believes felinity should not be equated with bondage and feel Dora can escape her hysteria only through feminist consciousness. Moi also believes that Freud failed to discover that Dora was transferring her feeling for Herr K. on him, which indeed furthered the failure of his study. Moi explains that Freud was not very sensitive to Dora's feeling towards the relationship she had with Herr K. , in fact he seems to endorse it. Moi suggest that Freud's interpretation of her hysteria is quite odd, Dora develops hysterical symptoms because she represses sexual desire.

But her case has an added, oedipal dimension: one must suppose that Dora originally desired her father, but since her father disappointed her by starting an affair with Frau K. , Dora now pretends to hate him. Herr K. represents the father for Dora, particularly because he is also Frau K. husband.

Dora repression of her sexual desire for Herr K. is therefore at once a hysterical reaction (repression of sexual desire) and an oedipal reaction (rejection of the father through rejection of Herr K. ). I believe Freud's interpretation is completely wrong and poses a threat to Dora and does not respect her as a female. It is quite disgusting that Freud believes Dora to be infatuated with her father, indeed she has an infatuation but obviously it does not include any sexual desires. Dora's infatuation seems to be directed to her need for love, love by a father, She indeed does not receive love from her father, due to the fact he directs all his energy to his mistress Frau K.

Moi concludes that Dora can be perceived as the bearer of feminine epistemology in the study only because Freud selected her as his opponent in a war over cognition, creating her a s his symbolic antagonist. To champion Dora's feminine values means meekly accepting Freud's own definition of masculine and feminine. Power always creates its own definitions, and this is particularly true of the distinctions between masculine and feminine constructed by patriarchal society. Nowhere is patriarchal ideology to be seen more clearly than in the definition of the feminine as the negative of the masculine - and this is precisely how Freud defines Dora and the feminine epistemology she is supposed to represent. (Moi 198) Finally, the act of oppression is definitely apparent in the case study of Dora, preformed by Freud. The case study of Dora is directly linked to the text by Paulo Freires, The Banking Concept of Education. Both text make reference to the act of oppression.

In The case study of Dora oppression is used on Dora, in a way trying to brainwash her make her believe that she actually has a problem. After studying the actions of Dora I have concluded that she is not sick or mentally challenged in any way she just seems to want love to come her way from her father. Freud fails to see that connection just as the teacher playing the Oppressor role in the Banking concept. Both fail to realize the under laying factors, they are completely missing the whole point and in many ways making the people around them suffer, due to their lack of knowledge to the situation.
