Trey stood a dominating six foot four inches and was an astounding two hundred and seventy pounds. He was no average junior college student; a Greek God among common people. He did not fit Websters definition of outgoing rather a tamed and timid beast. He was not well known down at Dixie State Junior College; he merely walked around in his tank top and shorts like everyone else and baked in the hot sun. Fresh out of high school and in a new area with new people, he didnt really know anyone and in return no one knew about how good he was on the field.

He had taken a big risk taking the full ride scholarship, going to a place where he didnt know a soul. He just thought of the coaches words Youll be one hell of an addition to our offensive line, the coaching staff and I love your speed. The only answer he could give in his deep train of thought was a low Thanks. He just strolled along the sidewalk as he was going to a team meeting for the ending of hell week. He had quite the impressive camp. He used his raw emotion and pure brute strength to manhandle defensive players.

The only bit of concern that the coaches have was the ability to adapt to the program and befriend some teammates along the way. It wasnt that he wasnt a team player; he just felt he had to show his macho attitude first. What the coaches didnt know about was Treys bad shoulder. In a high school playoff game he suffered a career-altering hit. It was midway through the second quarter when Trey was blind-sided out of bounds. Taken down by a cheap shot.

He suffered not only a separated left shoulder and collarbone but nerve damage down his left arm and back. The thought of the coaches knowing he was not one hundred percent made him nausea's. One of the main problems being it could affect his playing time, the other, the fact that Division I schools dont look too kindly on serious injuries. Trey had always thought of himself as a tough guy. Everyone has to know when to stop right? Wrong.

Trey was so full of pride he didnt know when to say no. His father used to say, Our family has always been known as hard workers, never quit. His parents did not give much, if any, support for college. There was no way he could go to college without a scholarship. The words never quit shot to his head more than the agonizing pain from his shoulder. The first few games flew by with ease.

The Dixie State Rebels had won their first three games by no less than an average of thirty-two points. Trey had secured his starting job, but what he didnt know was the price he was paying for it. Before games Trey had taken enough painkillers to drop a small elephant. The following morning he would pop a few more PKs just to make it through the day. Trey wondered how long he could live like this. But he had to finish the season, including the next game, which could be his future.

He thought about how a single persons future (mainly his own) could be relying on a sixty-minute game. This was not just a game; this game was for the division lead against the Rebels archrival the Snow Badgers. They were not only tied with the Rebels for the lead in the division, but they also had the defensive end Dylan Johnson. He led the nation in sacks and led the league in tackles for loss. Coach knew the match up was coming, but he prayed that Trey could be the one to put him down. Trey had all the confidence in the world in himself, there was only one doubt the thorn in his side, his shoulder.

He had been babying the shoulder just slightly enough that no one would notice. He could handle all of the defensive ends despite the fact he was a left tackle and that was where he took all the force. He told himself it was all mental. Dylan Johnson was all in his head, not in his shoulder.

Trey had received a call from a few schools, which made him damn near giddy. The call that mattered the most came at nine thirty Thursday night, two nights before the game. The head coach from Northwestern had called and asked with an I mean business sound in his voice, May I speak to Trey please This is him, Trey answered. Trey, coach Smith here Trey sounded almost intimidated. Oh, hello coach. I have been watching film the last couple of weeks, and I like what I see.

Thank you sir Trey answered timidly. Well I will be taking a trip down to your big game this weekend. Are ya nervous. Trey wanted to sound confident but not cocky, Not really, just another game we gotta win. Coach Smith chimed in Im recruiting this weekend and Im not gonna bull censored around I want to offer you if youre the real thing. Trey was silent.

What Im talking about is a full ride scholarship to Northwestern, but you better have one hell of a game against Dylan Johnson. Trey suddenly came to the realization, like running into a wall, his enemy wasnt the Snow Badgers but Dylan Johnson. Coach Smith. Bibliography:
