My name is Matthew James Schwengler. I was born on March 31, 1987 in McAllen, Texas. Im 13 years old and my parents are Michael and Patricia Schwengler. I have two brothers, Jason, who is 16 and Daniel, who is 10.
I have lived in California since 1989. Every year in March and November my family goes camping to Rocky Point in Mexico. It is located on the northern point on the Sea of Cortez. We go with my Uncle Brian, Aunt Susan, my cousins Joshua, Angelica and Cody. My Aunt Susan's parents, sister and family friends also go. We drive to Phoenix where they all live and then we all drive down together to Rocky Point.
It takes about 3 hours to get there from Phoenix. We camp on the beach in a camp ground called Playa Bonita. A lot of people camp there in tents, RVs and trailers. We always have camped in a tent. There is a store, a video and pool room, showers, laundry facility and a Jacuzzi there.
It is right on the beach and there is a lot of things to do there. For instance, you can go on a banana boat. A banana boat is long and yellow, it fits about 5 people. The sea is really weird, the tide goes out very far. It has to go at least a couple of hundred feet out. When the tide is out that far, we walk out there and collect sea shells.
There are lots of tide pools and all kinds of sea creatures live in them. At night we always go to a restaurant in town. The food there is so good, the tacos are so juicy and big. I could eat that food all day. The cool part about just laying on the beach is people come up to and try to sell everything you can think of. Theyll sell you silver jewelry, food, glasses, wallets, and even beer.
The cool part is they come to you! The best part of all is they sell you fireworks! The fireworks down in Mexico are so cool. They have these things called mortars, they go up in the sky and make lots and lots of cool colors.
We rent quads and take them all over the place. We usually rent two of them and race each other. We ride on the beach and in the sand dunes. They go pretty fast and you have to be careful when your in the dunes so you dont flip them. I have races with my cousins and we go real fast on the roads. We also go to the market.
They have so many shops and they sell some really neat stuff. You can buy all kinds of souvenirs and fireworks there. At night, we have a campfire and roast marshmallows and launch our fireworks on the beach. But the best thing is that in less then 2 weeks well be going there. I can hardly wait.
