The divorce rate for African American women is 60 %, which is a devastating number. In most black households the statistics becomes a reality. This occurs more often because black women rush into love too soon and frequently end up with marginal men. Women in highly publicized relationships unfortunately have not been inspiring role models to young black women. Tina Turner and Whitney Houston-Brown endured abuse for the name of love where as Robin Givens realized she had to release her self from the relationship before receiving even more abuse. Tina married her manager, Ike because she thought Ike loved her and got into a marriage to be taken care of.
Ike did take care of her but not mentally or physically. She experienced both mental and physical abuse. Ina stayed in the hostile relationship until the late 70 s. Whitney and Bobby Brown looked like the ideal couple because both has their careers going for them but instead of the positive relationship we thought they would have they both gave each other negative influences in the marriage. Robin Givens was the smarter of the two women. Before thing became out of hand Robin got out of the relationship with Mike Tyson.
Even though Robin is not my favorite we should take an example of how she got out of the relationship verses staying in a relationship that only provided negative energy rather than positive energy. Before we can love or even respect a man we must love and respect ourselves. If we show disrespect to ourselves no one will respect us including men. Finding a man that will respect s with trustworthiness is the basic foundation of a positive relationship. Being immature and naive about how we want to be treated can result with a man who gives us inadequate emotions. This can cause a relationship full of hostility and negativity.
When we are in a relationship and we later acknowledge that we are being treated unfair the result can end in a power play of who is the head of the relationship. Voicing what we want at the beginning of a relationship can help us gain respect, prosperity, a mutual satisfaction and fulfillment in a relationship. If we respect ourselves we can respect others feelings. Many women who do not respect themselves because of failed goals or passed relationships take it out on men that are naive. Women do this for various reasons like cars clothes or anything they can get there gold digging hands on.
Gold digging in a relationship can cause what was a positive relationship into a negative relationship. In most cases the man figures out what the women is up to and unfortunately she usually is mentally, physically, or socially abused which can hinder a women from getting into a relationship because other men know what she is after. Many black women have many roles to play in life; mother, daughter, sister, student head chairmen, boss and many other stressful roles which makes black women impatient and quick - tempered. Most black women know what they want in a man but they just do not have the time and patients to wait for the right man to come so they settle with the man who is the closest to what they want which can cause dissatisfaction in relationships.
Even the married black women does not have the time to settle differences in options and problems associated with marriage so we decide to have a divorce. If black women would take time to see what kind of relationship they might be getting themselves into the divorce rate would drop tremendously. The reason why African American women end up with the wrong man is because we become impatient and lower our standards just to say that we have someone to come home to. We need to acknowledge that before he can take care of us we must take care of ourselves first. We should learn by Tina's mistake, staying in a relationship that is negative results in a negative outlook on life. If we acknowledge ourselves as strong powerful leaders and give ourselves self-respect we would no longer be satisfied in our relationships.
