In ETHICS THEORYS AND PRACTICE Murder is defined as the unlawful and immoral killing of one person by another person, especially with malice aforethought. Murder is classified into two main categories, Murder one, which is defined as premeditated or planned. Murder one carries the strongest sentence in our judicial system. Also, there is murder two, which is a killing or murdering in reaction of a circumstance or the murderer is not considered mentally capable of knowing at that moment in time, that killing is lawfully and morally wrong.

As time has passed, murder has been a very sensitive subject. With murder occurring regularly in todays society it is difficult to say if there is a solution to this problem. The only sure thing about taking a life, it is wrong. Remember just over a year ago, the columbine high school shooting? How can any one really forget the horror the nation felt when two high school students took it upon themselves to take the lives of promising young high school students in premeditated cold blooded fashion. Then, to just turn the guns on themselves and commit suicide.

The question still stands, where did those two infamous students fall of the track of morally right and morally wrong? Was it there up bringing? Are there parents to blame? Or, is it society and the media?

Or is it a combination of all the above? What was it that drove those two boys to murder thirteen innocent students? What drove them to kill and take the life of other people? Most people living in this earth are aware of the circumstances of murder. But with such a broad subject it cannot be analyzed in one paragraph. What drives people to kill?

Most people know that if you take another human beings life that there are consequences to pay. In most cases, if you kill someone you get caught and you go to jail. Most people grow up knowing right from wrong. They know never to steal lie or kill.

Its just something that is so common knowledge that it is not tolerated in any of our generations. Usually if you dont get caught by police, then many times you get what is called payback by someone else who knows about the situation. Eventually, the perpetrator answers to somebody. I dont believe I know that that is the way it works all the time but, this world has ways of weeding out the bad seeds.

Part of the problem with murder today is that our people are exposed to it everyday. In the nineteen forties and fifty's murder was very out of the ordinary, taboo in a sense to even discuss it. But, in todays generation, murder is exposed in the media, TV programs and movies. Even kids the age of three all the way up to the older more modern generations are exposed to murder or some type of killing in video games and entertainment. Thus desensitizing the common person of the horrid act of killing. It is believed that by the time a young boy turns four to age six, that he has witnessed over five hundred murders or killings in his every day cartoons or video games or regularly programmed TV.

In result of this children tend to imitate what they see on television often mimicking killings and murders as seen on TV. As for people of the age to comprehend that the taking of life is wrong from twelve to twenty, these people have been exposed to over ten thousand murders thus desensitizing them of the moral wrongs and taboos of killing and murder. Murder and killing does not just effect the children of todays society. Killings effect mostly the victims family and friends. They are the people who have to live with the loss and death of a loved one. They are not able to communicate with that person or just acknowledge them with a simple hello.

They also are the people who are forced to grieve the loss. Also, the community suffers from killings and murder. They hear about what goes on daily weather it is in there own neighborhoods or in their city they are constantly reminded of what has occurred. They live in fear of their family's safety and there own life not being safe.

As in the columbine high school incident, parents were afraid to send their children back to school because they were concerned for their safety. It is often said that murder and the taking of ones life is in fact the worse thing any person can do. It is believed to be one of the worst moral offenses that a human being can commit. It is also believed that the value of life is the most single important principle of the five. Our lives are everything to us in our lifetime.

People only get one chance to really live, to have that one chance in life be unfairly and unjustly taken away is not fair. Some may argue that killing is justified in justifiable homicide. Where a victim who has endured a killing related to him or is threatened by being killed as well. But how can it be justifiable if it is still the taking of ones life?

Even though the value of life principle advocates a reverence for all human life, people have a right and a moral obligation to protect innocent lives as well as there own. Also, the good of defending the innocent far out weighs the bad of killing a person who is threatened to kill or who actually kills innocent people. Killers in a sense forfeit their rights of having their lives considered as valuable when in order for their killing to be stopped they must be killed. But is this really the only way that killing is condoned? When will the violence end when violence is allowed. Also god is the only one who is allowed to take human life with out remorse or consequence.

Killing in any case is not the right of human beings under any circumstance. Bibliography:
