Queen Victoria was one of the greatest women ever to sit on the throne of England. Her long reign lasted from 1837 to 1901. Her efforts during these years changed England very much. Ironically, Queen Victoria was never meant to reign England. Her seat on the throne came about in an unusual way.

After the death of Queen Victoria's uncle, King George IV, the throne was meant to be passed on to one of George III's grandchildren. However, no one in the royal family had given birth to any legitimate children except for the Duke of Kent, Victoria's father. So at the age of 18, Victoria, daughter of Duke Edward of Kent, became Queen Victoria of England. This was due to a distant relation to the Queen Victoria was born because her parents wanted to bear the next heir to the throne.
