It was about three months ago when I had my graduation party. All of my relatives were there from my grandma to my cousins-in-law to congratulate my friends and I. When my father finally showed up, I was very happy to see him, but not as happy as I was once he gave me my present. It was the thing that about ninety percent of college students own and need, a new computer. It was not just any old computer however, it was a laptop. It also had just about every option that you could possibly think of included.
I could do everything from e-mail my friends, to watch DVD movies. This laptop has been so essential to me because it saves me both money and time, two things a college student needs a lot of. Laptops can actually serve a whole lot of purposes when you think about it. One purpose is replacing phone conversations with e-mail or chat rooms. This saves everyone a whole lot of money, especially when you have a girlfriend who lives over two thousand miles away, that you like to talk to often. A single conversation can end up costing five dollars, and when you talk a lot, these conversations add up.
I tried using a cell phone with one of those special long distance plans, limiting me to only so many minutes, but it didnt work out. I ended up talking way too much on the phone and ran up a bill that drove my parents up the wall. Even though you dont hear the precious voices of the ones you love with a laptop, you can actually get a lot accomplished. You can do things like set up appointments or times to see or meet with people.
Finally, you can also leave messages with your professors without them having to hear your lying, pitiful voice of whatever excuse you have for not being at class that day. Another use of a laptop is the ability to both listen to music, and watch numerous movies on it. I do not even own a CD player or radio, because my laptop plays music. All I have to do is sign on to the ever so controversial Napster and download any song that I could possibly dream of.
It doesnt sound bad at either, it has no distortion and is very clear. I also have two decent size speakers hooked up to my laptop and they get loud enough to have people that live directly above me hate me. I can also watch any movie that I want. I just log onto to Napster's brother program called Scour, a semi knock off, where you can download movies. This is normally what I do when I either fly home, or go on any other kind of time consuming trip. I just download a couple of movies and watch them on the flight.
This also is a money saver. You dont have to constantly rent or buy movies, you just download them. The easy portability of laptops is another plus. Who would of thought in the eighties that one day you could carry a whole computer in a backpack. You can take them anywhere you want these days. I can do homework anywhere from at a soccer game, to outside waiting anxiously for my laundry to finish.
You can also log onto the Internet anywhere you want, all you need is a cell phone. I always see old business men checking their stocks online on airplanes using this technique. I dont have any stocks or anything like that, so I just look up stuff about volleyball. The carrying cases are also perfect. They are formed to fit the laptop exactly, and easily is slung around your shoulder. I think it is very worth it to carry a ten pound laptop around that contains countless information.
Another great time saver that the laptop provides is the ability to do homework on the run. It makes it so much easier. If you are in a hurry and need to do some homework, just bring it with you. Like I said before, I can do homework anywhere that I want.
Also, if you are lucky enough to have a portable printer, you can do things like print your homework on the way to class, or print the beautiful girls homework who sits next to you. The only bad thing about this is if you tend to do a ton of homework that takes a ton of time, your battery may go dead. This will really upset you if you didnt save your work. Laptops are the best thing that anyone could have.
They do so much for everybody and make everyones life a whole lot easier. People do not understand how much easier, and actually cheaper, life can be with the simple purchase of a laptop. I love laptops due to the easy conversational devices, the multi-media it comes with, the portability, and the easy access to homework anywhere. If I ever lost my laptop or it got stolen I dont know what I would do.
